UPDATE -- THE MOST RECENT RATIO 6 USES A CONE-SHAPED FLAT BOTTOM BASKET - NOT COMPLETLY FLAT.
@Xavso312 жыл бұрын
Why such a change? For the European market possibly?
@afoeder2 жыл бұрын
@@Xavso31 yes - afaik it's market dependent but you can always buy the other option as a spare part in the Ratio online shop.

ok this makes sense, i kept reading cone shaped but i'm like it looks flat ... i really love the flat bottom aesthetically but does cone shaped make a better coffee or is it just easier to buy filters for? if you do buy the flat version do you just search for basket coffee filters.
@Speedomodel Жыл бұрын
This is the first video I've seen where someone lifts the filter basket and slips carafe below. So much better then stacking and putting onto machine together. Thank you!

FYI this method doesn’t work with the cone shaped filter basket, seems to be much taller than the flat basket. I thought I was going crazy trying to do this with the cone shape filter basket.

Any tips on how to pour from the carafe without drip...?

The tip of lifting the filter basket to slip the carafe underneath is life changing. Somehow no one else has ever mentioned this including Ratio!

Would you recommend this over the Moccamaster select?
@AlternativeBrewing Жыл бұрын
Depends what you're using it for. The Ratio 6 would be great for an office scenario - though at home the Select would be better for smaller amounts.
@phillydelphia83 Жыл бұрын
Thanks guys this is likely to be at home use only.

@@AlternativeBrewing good morning! could you expand upon this? it seems like mochamaster has similar carafe capacity, so why is it worse for larger amounts? wihtout limiting it to these two options, which is your overall drip coffee maker (with 8 cup+ capacity) recommendation? for those of us who are new to premium coffee maker scene... thanks!
@brianwca3 жыл бұрын
I'd want a timer to start brewing for me. Without that, this just adds a step to my morning. The process of removing the basket and placing it in a drip tray also looks really cumbersome.

A selfish company that only allows the use of Carafes made of them because of the magnets below
@basic-decaf2 жыл бұрын
We just tape a magnet to the base to use a Chemex with it. Easy.
@basic-decaf2 жыл бұрын
The reason why they designed it to detect a magnet is because without anything below it literally sprays boiling hot water all over itself, your counter, you, etc, which is kind of an electrical hazard and a huge mess.

Wow love the look of the machine. Never heard of this brand. Is it available in the US?

It's actually made in the USA! Out of Portland. Search Ratio Coffee Brewers 👌

Seems odd that you have to hold the basket to take the carafe out and then secure the basket on a tray while you pour your coffee from the carafe.. and then cover it with a lid and have make the carafe sit on the side as the basket is sitting on the tray on the machine.. Convenience takes a big hit IMO.. But, thank you for showing this.. Now, I'll have to look at some other model..

How does it do making smaller batches, say 700g of water?
@AlternativeBrewing4 жыл бұрын
In a similar fashion in regards to the pre-infusion. Very stable with that flat bottom basket though. Get the Grind just right and you'll find it's very consistent and doesn't channel. I would say because of the flat bottom basket though, the HALF batch is as small as I'd go. Any less than this and the bed depth is too thin 👍

Is the filter basket made of plastic? Very odd why not make it of stainless.
@AlternativeBrewing Жыл бұрын
ye it is. Plastic in fact is a better thermal mass than metal. Metal would require you to heat it up before brewing otherwise it would sink to much heat from the brew water - plastic on the on the other hand - whilst not inert in this way - is much slower at sinking heat
@Story_Teller_Everyone Жыл бұрын
@@AlternativeBrewing fair enough I’d still prefer it to not leach plastic into coffee. I’ll just stick to French press I guess. Been looking for something more automatic that doesn’t contain plastics. The cone poor over doesn’t taste as good as the flat bottom.

@@AlternativeBrewing so one cup / mug I mean 250ml which is often marked as 2 cups on filter machines. If it can do 2 cups, does it adjust to a slower pour compared to 8 cups?
