A friend and I made two trailers in a similar fashion back in the late 1970s. The hitches were different (less destructive to the bike frame), but we went to a store like Walmart or Kmart (I don't recall which as it was decades ago) and bought two cheap frame backpacks and a $25 hand truck, took the packs off of the frames, drilled holes on the side bars of the hand trucks and mounted the packs on them like a typical backpack. We had to get some slightly longer cotter pins because the ones that came on the backpacks were too short, and replaced the tires with some Go Kart racing steel rims and tires. We loaded them up with camping gear, clothes, food and water and hit the road for a 7,000 mile two year long bike trip. And what a fabulous trip it was too...

Theres something magical that takes over the spirit when you tinker with your own possessions and make your own rigs/fix it yourself.

This is really useful, thanks for making this! Suggestion: If anyone doesn't want to drill their frame, try a pannier rack to attach the trailer to the bike. Might not be as strong as the solution in the video, but should work just as well - if you choose to do that just beware that your hand trolley may rub on the back wheel

Don't need drill frames or use racks, There's a solution to this! I've made a couple of vids using basic hand tools and materials that can be picked up for free, a seat post clamp has worked perfectly

A Burley Travoy trailer is €335 !!! They are so easy to make and so cheap too. Use recycled wheels from a pram or a kids bike.

Great idea the box should be mounted with the base on the base not on the trolleys back wall as things will fall out on bumpy runs you will hone the concept with more use 100% for desiegn effort and sharing well done and best wishes.

A golf travel bag will fit that nicely.

Nice minimum modification for maximum result! If you would rather have the trailer more horizontal you could just extend one (or both) of the chain stays to behind the wheel and attach the trailer there. More capacity, lower center of gravity, and probably less chance of your stuff bouncing out if you hit a bump.

Any work around to drilling the bike frame itself?
