Watched this with my just-turned-five-year-old son last night. When it went to fast speed when you were laying the bricks, he got mad and said "Too bad it was all sped up" so I promised him I'd ask whether there are videos of the whole freaking job. :D My son would watch hours of Stu Crompton if I would let him!

Do steps need to be 150mm below the DPC like other paving/patios?
@happyxda3 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy - nice job that one. I am about to do the same in front of french doors. I already have a lock block area and patio slab area where this will be built. Will follow your advice to put the mortar on and build the brick base. there is a little area where there is no lockblock/paving slabs, but a garden area which I have to dig out in order to make the step in front of door. How do I go on that area? Shall I compact the aread firmly first and then lay the base mortar? or I have to replace the area with hardcore base?

Would you use the same technique for building a raised patio? I want to build a couple of course high wall, build up the inside and then lay the slabs on top. Also would I need a double skin of bricks? Great videos by the way....really helpful 👍🏻
@mozer30 Жыл бұрын
I’m thinking of doing this for my French doors, but as rising damp is a huge issue in my house, would it be beneficial to fit a dpc/dpm to prevent bridging the house dpc?
@tomodonoghue3309 Жыл бұрын
surprised he didn't do it here, I would 100% use dpm to protect the wall, and a half a bubble gradient on the slabs

This video is fantastic... What sand cement ratio would u recommend for doing this job? Thanks.. Or would you recommend a pre mixed mortar bag, thanks
@shuvadey42942 жыл бұрын
Great work and love watching you at work. I notice there was a pipe running in to the brick work and was wondering how you tackled that with the flagstone. Did you make a cut for the pipe? Also wonder how any future maintenance to the pipe will be a challenge, perhaps why the step was only one course high.

Great vid - thanks for that! Do you have any advice when there is an air brick under the doorway which would be blocked in this scenario? Also, when it is a concrete base underneath which you would need to build the step onto? Cheers!
@supercrazyplum2 жыл бұрын
Remove said air brick and incorporate it into the brickwork step and then connect a piece of pipe something like a rainwater downpipe over a air ducting pipe to the renewed air brick and poke it through the hole left when you removed the air brick

Hi stu lad what's building control for risers/tread etc, so much conflicting info out there. Cheers keep the good work up 👍
@lmilne48594 жыл бұрын
That’s borderline to high. 175mm max height for risers. May have squeeze 2 steps out the pos. always like to have the slab up just 10mm from under the plastic cill on door. Am a believer of coming out to similar level of inside. Normally patio doors 900mm. Top platt. But regs vary
