Great video, super informative! Another video idea would be how many stocks/ETF's you should hold in your TFSA/RRSP with various dollar amounts such as $1k, $5k, $10k, etc! Or, maybe using WS Trade or Questrade do a long term series on building a new portfolio with the same sort of idea and building from say $1k. Or, have a transparent video and show all your positions in your TFSA/RRSP with the % allocations and $ values! Take care guys!

Maybe you guys can analyze each sector(for example, consumer staples, real estate, utilities, etc.) And talk about the historical returns for each sector, the moat, tailwinds, headwinds. And talk about the top stocks in each sector(both canadian and us stocks). Or maybe you guys can do some earnings updates(for the big companies, that people are invested in), or just cover any major financial news(interest rates,inflation, etc).Any video with you guys together is awesome, the dynamic is great because your investing styles/methods are the same but still different.

Yes, Marc, split share coporations like Dividend 15 Corp, DFN, I think they use cover calls to get that nice yield of 15 Quality Canadian high yielding stocks. That would be a good idea you had to talk about explaining these types of investment stocks.

Does your spreadsheet at the end take into account the 15% dividend tax on US stocks? Wont make a huge difference but still worth mentioning.
@beaviswealth
@beaviswealth 3 жыл бұрын
It does not. Because the same strategy could be used for an RRSP, where the 15% does not apply, we couldn't build a sheet that worked in every case.... but like you say, it does provide the structure and concept! Thanks for commenting and watching. - Marc

I had a feeling Enbridge would be on here, so my question is, i know E-Split Corp is also available to trade and it offers an even higher yield than the original, but it feels "too good to be true", so what's the benefit of ENB over ENS and vice versa?

I've watched many of your videos and they are all GREAT !! My investment question is for my 20year old grandson. 1. Should he buy VGRO/XGRO for the simplicity and rebalancing for the next 35 - 40 years ( Not worried about market down turns at all ) He just wants to keep investing monthly for the LONG term without having to babysit the whole portfolio. 2. Or Buy BMO ETFs like ZWU , ZWC ( with Covered Call strategy ) that produce 7% dividends routinely ( while the portfolio balance is basically treading water )and ride the market ups and downs for the next 35-40 years ? I mean 7%+ is not too bad for the next 35-40 years is it ? He would be investing monthly. Thanks in advance for any ideas for him . Great Videos. !!! I'm subscribed. !!!

Clorox is intriguing for me, worth a deep dive to check if the brands are strong enough to withstand the post-COVID era; how strong is their distribution channels, how deep is their brand penetration, and will they be able to retain and grow the customer base they gain during the pandemic. However, the shares are expensive now selling at 22 times forward PE and 20 times book value, compared to Unilever for example that sells at 19x forward PE and 8x book. looks like most of the potential long-term upside for a slow growing CGP company has been baked into the shares already..

On the other hand, MMM is not a good buy, in my opinion at least. they are a "conglomerate" that lacks focus. they are so big and their moat is so narrow, so they have to make a major restructuring every 5 years!! just to keep costs under control and shed non-core business and ventures. I see MMM being a powerhouse maybe couple of decades ago, when they were in the innovation phase, but not now. similar to a commodity business, they are impacted by inflation to a big extend, and they heavily rely on geographical expansion.. they need the Chinese market so desperately and they keep on piling up debt like a drunk sailor to fund expansion.. I know debt doesn't matter much now, but at some point it will. I think MMM has to be broken down, simplified in a sense, as much more value will be created that way..

I may be in a minority here but I will not put my money into Embridge. This is due to their business being focused on fossil fuels. It is clear that Embridge will be an attractive stock for the foreseeable future, but I believe in the long term it will suffer do to our move away from fossil fuels. Also I do not want to financial support a company Adding to the environmental problems we face. Fortis and Algonquin, however, I like because they preform well, and are actively moving toward green tech and carbon neutral power. Embridge has no green projects, and the closest thing to it they had was a power line connecting to a grow wind power area, which the sold off last year. Bill Gates for example has reinvested from none green friendly companies, and I massive respect that he is putting his money where is mouth is. By this I don't not mean to lecture people about the environment but rather to say: Don't just invest in the wallet you want, but the world you want. If a company doing something that you think is harmful to your country, society, the world, or it's peoples find other investment opportunities.

Fortis (the holding company) was created 1987, but its roots go back to 1885. In '87, shares of Newfoundland Light & Power Co. were exchanged for Fortis shares, hence the history that goes back beyond 1987. The entity has gone through a number of corporate events and renaming over those years. Thanks for your keen eye, Cedric! - Marc

Something I'd like to see you guys talk about is the growth comparison (and returns via dividends) between a stock with a higher yield such as Enbridge, that hasn't shown much growth over the past couple years. Compared to stocks with much small yeilds, but continuous high growth, such as fortis. (You don't have to use these two stocks, I'm just using them as an example) I understand a diversified portfolios are important, but I want to make sure every dollar is working it's hardest for me while in the stock market. To put it short, why do we need 'or' want smaller growth stocks (or stocks with little to no growth) with higher yields compared to higher growth stocks with lower yeilds, and do they have similar returns over the years (30-40 year period) or will one type out perform the other in the long run?
@David_C_83
@David_C_83 3 жыл бұрын
I have wondered the same, I'll sometimes see a stock that's about 70$ which gives me a similar dividend than a 35$ stock and I think might as well get two of the cheaper one and I'll get a better return for the same investment, but I don't know how that works on a long term basis when comparing their growth. I feel it might not be easy to make a straight comparison as there's so many variables but I'd definitely still want to see that type of comparison too.
