I disagree. Having know-how of Remote Sensing is good but GIS mainly deals with vector geometry, and you must know programming languages and not the Remote Sensing band-math theories or indexes for GIS.

In my opinion, GIS and image processing are two separate domains with a bit of overlapping areas. Understanding image processing is enough, operational expertise is optional.

No, it is not necessary. Instead focus on programming languages. Also there is a misconception that you must be a software engineer level kind of programmer. You don't! There are three main domains and you must have command over at least two. 1. Desktop automation (Python programming mainly), Web GIS Development (Web-technologies; can explain in detail if asked) 3. Database Management system. You must start with database management system. Learn SQL, PostgresSQL, PostGIS, etc. Then move on to WebGIS or Desktop development like QGIS Plugins, automation, etc. You can learn all of them, there is no harm in that but we have very limited time and technology is changing in every second so you must master one, and possess know-how of the other.

Sorry my answer earlier was a bit off the question. No! Don't even install EDRAS Imagine in your system. You don't need that. There are certain Remote Sensing operations that you may require to perform but you can do them all in ArcGIS/QGIS.

I'm quite a bit familiar with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and complete several personal projects with these tools. I want to know another staff- Is learning one of the data management Systems enough for GIS, if yes then which one should be known (for ArcGIS particularly)?
