This is an addendum to my previous video about building custom guitars. Everyone asked what the costs were and how I would go about doing it. So I am demonstrating everything that goes into it.

funny how this video doesn't have many views, even though it's pure gold right here. If I lived in the US I would definitely use this method, unfortunately I live super far and I'm afraid some parts won't get delivered or something will happen to them on the way. Mind you, I love this approach. all the additional costs like marketing... who cares?! at the end of the day all I care about is a good quality product. Thanks for the video. A real eye-opener!

Thank u SO MUCH for doing this video. I learned more from this video than any other source in yrs!!! I really appreciate your no nonsense approach, & positive encouragement. I've been playing guitar for 35yrs, always dreamed of making MY OWN signature guitar. I've played, purchased, barrowed, traded, & sold more guitars than I can even remember thru the yrs. I now live hundreds of miles away from the nearest music shop, so I have gone the big mega store online route since 2000. New guitar days are still awsome fun, unless u run into the usual problems that never happen when buying "in person" off the rack. From the time I learned enough , understood the ins and outside, what i liked & disliked, I've wanted to build my own. I dont have a wood shop or tools, no experience working with wood and soldering, so I always resigned to the fact that I would never be able to do it alone. Now, the skies have cleared, the clouds parted, and because of your awsome presentation here, I'm going to start making my own custom builds!!! And at the time I need to the most. I was severely injured in an accident 5 yrs ago, still having operations to fix my back and legs, I'm not able to work anymore. So money is very tight. But my love of playing and my passion and fire can never be extinguished. And, buying pretty expensive instruments, I always walked away wishing, why dont the add in a feature here, a tweak there. Always frustrated me. So, now, I wont hav to ask why, I'll be outfitting my own custom shop details! Thanks again man, stumbling upon your video today was truly a light bulb moment and giving me hope again to purchase my own custom shop beauty, and be able to AFFORD IT!!! Awsome. U hav a new subscriber!!!! Looking forward to many more!!!🙏🎆✨😎

Thanks Jon. This is the most helpful video I've seen. I see some of my mistakes. I did not know I could skip the "add Hardware" and then go order what I choose later in the process. Big eye opener. I always thought I had to buy the pickups and hardware through Warmoth. Thank you ! I appreciate you making this video knowing how I've been struggling.

I ordered roasted body and neck. No need for finish! And if you use gun oil it looks amazing. Just a tip. :)

What do you mean gun oil? Is that some kind of alternative for a finish?

@@hooligans7618 tru oil for example, google it for videos etc. :) Ernie Ball use it for their guitars.

Home built doesn't equal "Custom Shop" ...unless you are Ron Thorn or Tom Murphy.

Hey I love your hardtail string-thru strats , I want to buy the parts off Warmoth but I’m afraid because I don’t know how to make sure the string spacing and scale length fits , I want to use the tune-o-magic bridge bridge. Can you give me some advice on picking out the bridge and neck ?
@JonBingham
@JonBingham 4 жыл бұрын
I generally run with Gotoh hardware because its an industry standard for quality... Bridge spacing on a typical fender trem or hardtail is roughly 2 and 1/16th. Same with a Gibson bridge. There are sometimes variances for different manufacturers, but this is roughly common. Gibson nut width is 1 11/16. Fender is 1.650, unless vintage -- then its 1 5/8. I wouldnt worry about matching the bridge and neck. They're so similar you will more likely want to worry about the neck feel. So focus on whether you want a fatter/thinner neck and nut.

Sadly, massive cost of shipping/customs if ordered from EU. If it wasn't, I would have ordered one already..

Yeah even just getting my stuff shipped to Canada was an extra $250 or something. It's rough.

Will they match the headstock finish to the body? I don't see an option for that.

Good video, but that is a fair whack of cash for a DIY kit. I buy Chinese kits and then spend some time sorting them out and upgrading parts. Get away with about $400.

yes, it cost more......but its in a whole different league than a Chinese upgraded kit.....

I didn't know this was a route when buying guitars, I want to build a doom guitar, I'm going to try this method. Thanks so much for the info! Edit: NM. Not all of us are trades people. You didn't specify someone would have to use any tools. Fucking screw driver? Not all of us went to fucking trade school, I'm taking my like back.

That is not a guitar build bro... that is buying guitar parts for $1100. Now show us how you actually built the guitar. Fit and finish... setup/pick up height/string selection/truss adjustment etc.
