How to Build a DIY Shoe Rack (Furniture from Framing Lumber Ep #1)

Hey Guys, I'm super excited to post the first video in a new mini series I'm doing called "Furniture From Framing Lumber" where I build furniture using ONLY basic framing lumber like 2x4s, 2x6s, and 2x8s! Todays build is a shoe rack. Enjoy!

Build a few of these and leave them in the garage for kid's shoes and rain boots. That is what I did. I had one in the garage and one in the mudroom. Great video.

Great project. I have my own saw but I know the big Orange and big Blue stores will do basic cuts for a small fee. I think almost anyone could build this. I guess that the cross shelf was supposed to be the last step 😃. Thanks for sharing and glad to see a project from start to sale!

Generally, you can get two free cuts if I recall. Perfect for plywood.

OK, I like the build but. . . The pocket screws are good and the glue is good, but neither one of them is sufficient for this build IMHO - especially true when you are putting the pocket screws in from the interior (although not as critical with 2x lumber). I would be wanting 3 pocket holes instead of 2 and to a large degree I would consider them to be clamps for the glue since an un-clamped PVA joint is a bit weaker than is optimal. That thing about acting as clamps for the PVA gluing means that I would not be comfortable letting that last piece just sit for an hour or two and then put in the screws. Hoping it works out well for you and your customer.

Nice build. Please face your American Flag the correct direction. Blue field should be on the viewers left as they face it when it is hanging on a wall, only being seen from one direction.
