Nice job. Well presented and information was easy to follow. I would like to see how you clean out the box and sand as well as feeding. Thank you Mike

@redwood for cleaning, it's around once a month or so. We get all the "loose" fiddlers out of the box first.. Then we set a large storage bin underneath the box where my water feeder holes are located. With the bowls removed, we scrape all the contaminated sand down to the holes, the sand falls through the holes into the bin underneath. We then pick up any loose crabs from the bin that we can get to. Then, we flood the bin and sand with water and the remaining crabs are scooped up with a small dip net.. Add new sand into the box, clean the crabs in a 5 gallon bucket of river water for 20 minutes while doing all the above, pour in new sand, return the crabs into the box after the sand with the dip net into the box.. Done deal. 💪👊

Hey Capt! Just wanted to say thanks for all your in-depth info from your years of experience that you pass along to us everyday guys. I’ve learned a ton from watching your teaching vids, and heck I’ve been fishing the Ga coast 40 years. Never get too old to learn something new, or a better way to do something👍 So please keep posting not only good info vids, but how about some fishing too! Melloreel.

Why use brackish water and not salt water? I find all my wild fidders in salt water environments. Im curious on what makes brackish water better to use?
@RichieLott Жыл бұрын
I'm simply using the water they came from... Been keeping fiddlers for about 30 years, I'm just relaying what's for sure worked for me and I am not likely to change it. However, I completely understand there's saltwater in brackish water, and using straight salt water may also be just fine for some people, but it kills my fiddlers wayy faster. So, I use the water they come from, which is an average between 10 to 15 ppm, which is close to half and half.. whereas seawater is around 34-35 ppm.. Depending on where someone gets the fiddlers, saltwater may be fine. But it's not for me personally.

Why are the boxes so deep? Can the crabs jump out?
