I lost over $70k when everything started to tank. Not because I was in an exchange that went belly up. I was just stupid to hold and because that's what everyone said. I'm still responsible. It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong. It took me over two years of being in the market, I'm really grateful I found one source to recover my money, at least $10k profits weekly. Thanks Natalie Strayer.

The very first time we tried, we invested $2000 and after a week, we received $9500. That really helped us a lot to pay up our bills.

Great interview! After listening to this, I am wondering, if you have money in Wellington Fund ( approximately 33% bonds) would you include that 33% portion as part of your bond allocation when working the percentages?
@john346x7
@john346x7 2 ай бұрын
In my opinion, yes. 33% of your Wellington portfolio should be counted toward your bond allocation.

It's not opinion.... It's an Absolute OF COURSE! WHY WOULDN’T YOU?! People get weird with money. They think that if it's in one pile or another it doesn't really count. It does.....

Am curious what you think of an etf HPYT, which is a covered call etf on US treasuries, for your fixed income portion, presently paying over 10% yield?

I wonder how a 5 year CD ladder compares return wise to the bond abd cash allocation described.

On Robs channel he says when rates drop we are probably not going to time it right. So he's riding out his personal portfolio in bond funds.

My 5-year individual bond ladder is nearly complete! I love it because unlike bond funds and cash, the yield is locked in. That's assuming I hold them until the due dates. Also, if the market goes down and stays down, I'll feel much better knowing at least I have this chunk of certainty as I enter retirement. In addition to equity funds, my portfolio also has a small bond fund in my 457 plan and money market funds. The latter is for emergencies.

I honestly do not understand the love affair with bonds with regard to long-term safety. It is clear when running Monte Carlo simulations the failure rate of a retirement portfolio increases proportionally with a higher percentage of bonds. Inflation is the real boogie man. As 2022 showed there are times when bonds are really not the safe haven they are purported to be. Lose/lose

Before 2022, I'd 110% agree. I'd roll my eyes everytime some 'expert' yammered on about having bonds as some sort of safe asset. But it's easy to see why bonds were touted - there was a 40 year bull run in bonds as interest rates ground ever-lower to almost zero. When interest rates popped, bonds got crushed. That said, for the first time in decades, I think bonds are a worthwhile investment - rates are bound to drop and you should see nice gains.

If you're living off of portfolio, cash for volatility has to grow somehow... like... I wouldn't do a long term bond fund as safety lol. But short term tbills and the like are fine.

Interesting. What asset class would you prefer instead of bonds to protect against sequence-of-returns risk during the first decade of retirement?
