When using the concrete blocks as the underlying structure, did you use rebar to secure them to each other and/or into the ground? Did you lay a concrete foundation?

The backside of that wall, where the gray blocks are visible and the back of the wooden fence can't be painted anymore, is that your own terrain?

The backside of the wall is covered in bushes trees and shrubs and the back of the wall is not visible from any angle. The wooden fence was taken down and yes 2 acres beyond the wall all mine.

Nice job. I will like to have something like this at my place. How many bricks not including blocks did you end up using on this build?
@GAN3699 жыл бұрын
+firstpitstop Thanks for the comment, I used approximately 3500 reclaimed bricks. We are just finishing laying around 200 sq m of Indian stone to create a court yard effect within the wall and this video will show some further work to the wall, I will get it uploaded in the next couple of weeks. Thanks again.

+GAN Sounds great can't wait to see it. How many of you building all this? I'm actually building an outdoor kitchen with a wood fired pizza oven at this time then adding a sitting area with a fire pit after laying brick pavers. I also saw the kitchen you did and it came out nice. I'm building my kitchen out of brick with concrete counter tops.

There are two of us building, a builder friend of mine who has 30 years experience as a mason and general building and me labouring and obviously shared design ideas no plans just get on with it and see what we can create. We are about 70 full days into the whole make over with probably two days left to completion. Its been a long journey but I'm delighted with the finished results. The very last job we were going to do was a fire pit and seating area but that will have to come next spring I think we both need a break. We have used around 30 tons of materials over the 70 days. Would love to see your build, will you be doing a video?

how was the brick tied to the block? very good level work without using stringlines, hard to see now a days

Why did you use those blocks, are they cheaper than the bricks?
@GAN3696 жыл бұрын
The blocks obviously cannot be seen from any angle and on top of the blocks is brick so it looks like a double skin of brick, from any angle. we could only get hold of a few thousand bricks so we used the block to save on the bricks to enable us to build a larger wall. Thanks for your comment.

Great design, great work, but if you do it again please re-think the foundation of the wall according to your local requirements and prescriptions. That's no critic, just to mention for somebody who wants to do something similar.
@GAN3696 жыл бұрын
It was a local planner who gave me the foundation requirements which were 18" deep x 18" wide, we actually went a little deeper more like 20", the wall is also tied into a secondary wall constructed of breeze block and brick, all is good as far as planning is concerned, thanks for your comment.

@kevinjamesparr5528 жыл бұрын
Looks like a half finished house not a wall around a garden.Yes I can see what is idea was but he should weather the edges as nature does and grown ivy and moss on top of brick levels. It is too stark and sharp. maybe in two hundred years it will look just right.
@GAN3698 жыл бұрын
+Kevin James Parr Thanks and fair comment, a year on with 4 x additional gothic arch windows built in with planters and hanging baskets placed all around the wall it looks totally different. The trees all around the perimeter have also grown and helped to blend the wall into its environment, as a builder friend of mine said the other week it looks like it has been their forever so the desired effect has finally been achieved although that doesn't show in this video. I might do a short year on follow up video.
