Well if u want the honest reason, I was kinda depressed and began slipping into alcoholism right before I was supposed to start engineering classes at the highest rated engineering school in my country. Just before I started school, I started playing guitar and getting into metal music and it pulled me out of that slump. Now I’m still depressed but I feel like my life has a little more meaning than it did before. And I believe that if I don’t end up doing this with my life, I can’t risk trying to find a new passion in life. But I do love guitar and effects pedals and all that stuff. I’m glad I found this channel

I haven’t built a pedal yet. I’m mid 50’s disabled veteran working on my ptsd by learning guitar. The effects pedal just hit the nerd geek toggle in my head, and I know I want to build my own. Someone said a few videos back that you were/are the Bob Ross of pedal building. So, if I can keep my thoughts on the happy little germanium diodes and dancing led’s, then I might just make something that the neighbors will know works. That’s all I got right now.

I just finished mine today, I love it! First had some issues where a 470R resistor got mixed into my 470K's so it was super quiet and thin, but as soon as I solved that it works like a charm. I'm thinking on building another but trying some mods, like switchable input caps and different clipping diode combos.

Great video guide. This was the circuit that got me started building pedals years ago. My mistakes were orientation of polarized components. This circuit is a great first build, and easy to tweak with diode mods, or combining Distortion + values.

I've built a few pedals - a few kits, and a few where I had to source all the parts. Sourcing all the parts for complicated builds is difficult if you are new to that. But it sure is rewarding to finish and have a working pedal. The last two I built don't work right however, and I don't have the troubleshooting skills to figure out what is wrong. This DOD 250 build looks easy enough, and it is one of my favorite dirt circuits, so I may try again. It would help wo have a parts list with links to the actual parts. Details like UF and NF matter (ask me how I know, haha)

When I was studying electronics and soldering, we were always pushed to clip our leads before soldering, to avoid broken solder joints or possible breaking of PCB traces due to the force caused by cutters. I was personally always sceptical of this and found it annoying to keep components in place ( we would use painters masking tape to hold the components down and also rely on bending the leads). In your personal experience putting together what I assume to be many hundreds of pedals, have you ever encountered an issue like this when clipping the leads after soldering the component? I just find this process so much more convenient and I feel the advice I got is a bit out of date.

I’d like to try and build my own amps, many years from now. Hardwired, transformers, all the good stuff. Is this even a reasonable goal to achieve ? I haven’t bought my first book to even begin my introduction into the engineering world.

I’ve built a couple pedals. One was garbage. One worked alright. My issue was amateur soldering. 😅 That said, I have a question about your dirt pedals. I play on a fender hot rod deluxe amp on the clean channel. Have you ever played your pedals on fender amps? I imagine it’s a brighter sound compared to right? I love your stuff but I’m curious about that variable.

I breadboarded a Harmonic Percolator once and it worked for like 5 minutes, then it just decided not to anymore. Im still trying to figure out how to fix the connection issues.

Those are the same the first one just forgot to add the f which is the unit measure for caps stands for Farad. pF stands for pico Farad 👍

I bought a kit, built it, and it just didn't work. I followed the video and the schematic very tediously and carefully. If I knew what I did wrong, I wouldn't consider that a waste of time and money. I'm hoping this video might give me some insight into where I went wrong. It was not the kit being used in this video. But, like he said, "any kit will do. "

I had a similar experience and my first problem was I used metal power jacks. Which dont work because it ended up grounding my positive leads. Repaced that. Still nothing. Turns out I also wired up my input and output jacks wrong. Redid those and boom. Works. Some other beginner mistakes I made or saw others have aside from wiring stuff backwards, was cold solder joints. Anyone that looks wonky to you, flow a little extra solder over them. They should be nice and shinny if done right. Stomp switch wiring is also a pain so tripple check that too. Hopefully you figure it out! Circuit building is a bit of a pain but its a fun relatively cheap hobby
