Thanks for keeping interest in the Hanger Rat alive and introducing it to a new audience. It's a classic. You did a great job explaining how to trim it. I scaled one up 135%, and added an electric motor with 3 channel RC. I re-christened it the Arena Rat.

Hi there Josh, I have been wanting to get into this hobby and have been making a lot of amateur planes out of stuff like foam plates and what not and have been wondering what is a good beginner kit for indoor free flight? Almost every plane I have made does not end well. They keep spinning and I believe it is because of the prop. Could you give me some advice because I have some knowledge on gliders but not rubber powered aircraft thank you and have a good day!

You sure make it look easy! Im interested in the prop bearing & mounting.

..Hyper Excellent!! 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 ..What could be a best substitute for balsa?....'Cause I don't have access to balsa wood...! 🤔
@joshuawfinn2 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one. There are some old designs based on pine and spruce with thinly stripped bamboo for outlines. Foam for the flying surfaces can be made to work well of course.

I always love to see takeoffs from ground. How about a tricycle landing gear? What design changes need to be made to make it happen? Any suggestions?
@joshuawfinn4 жыл бұрын
I've built a couple trikes. The biggest thing is to make sure the mains aren't too far behind the CG to get a good rotation and make the nose gear long enough to keep the plane slightly nose high as it accelerates.
@johnsamuel104 жыл бұрын

Very nice video but can we use any other method to provide dihedral to the wings?
@joshuawfinn3 жыл бұрын
You can use whatever method you want, just so long as you have at least as much as what's shown in the video. It's a forgiving design, but it does need dihedral to fly well.
@danielzarwell9318 Жыл бұрын
You are an amazing craftsman. Love you. Do you spray the tissue with water?
@joshuawfinn Жыл бұрын
On light stuff, you don't want to shrink the tissue or it will break the structure, or at least warp it so badly it won't fly. You can, however, steam the tissue to preshrink it and then iron it flat with a clothes iron so that it won't shrink once on the plane.

Hi friend,How I can buy it?Thanks in advance
@ytehrani38853 жыл бұрын
I want it to go in right hand circles. I was confused about wing twist. Am I correct in doing the following: Standing behind the plane ( holding it as if ready to were about to be launched): twist the RIGHT wing so the LE tip twists UP & TE tip twists Down (& the opposite for left wing). Thanks
@joshuawfinn3 жыл бұрын
That's correct. Then use right rudder and right thrust to make it turn right at the desired rate. Also remember that wing twist is very small, only 1/16" or so at the tips.

You can use whatever you can find if your goal is just to get something in the air...Banggood and Aliexpress probably have stuff in their online stores that could be made to work. That said, shoot me a message through our website at jhaerospace.com and include some details of what's causing problems with obtaining FAI rubber and I'll see if I can get a solution for you.

That's what I usually do. Just use only as much as is absolutely needed to bond things (less than you'd think). I recommend Gorilla super glue in the blue cap or Bob Smith Medium CA. Don't use thin CA.

Sir to sell this model do you have to make yourself legalise to sell this model or it’s universal like anybody and sell it ??? Plz sir help me replying answer Have a good day 😁🔥
@joshuawfinn Жыл бұрын
I only produce kits of designs that I either have permission from the designer to produce or that the designer is no longer living. Copyright enforcement really isn't a thing since most designs are never legally copyrighted in the first place.

Thank you for this. One question. Can I use a ply wood or any wood instead of balsa wood? I’ve been finding one and every hardware doesn’t have it
@joshuawfinn Жыл бұрын
Plywood is too heavy and lacks the strength to weight ratio. Go online, find a balsa supplier, and order the wood you need. Sourcing materials locally is a thing of the past because very few brick and morter stores still stock suitable materials. Good balsa suppliers include Specialized Balsa, National Balsa (Aerolight grade) and Model Aviation Products. Avoid SIG and Midwest like the plague, questionable quality and poor supply chain. Balsa USA isn't great either.
@fennyofficial3621 Жыл бұрын
@@joshuawfinn ok! Thank you so much! I’ll be ordering online any suggestion where I can order? Also is bamboo also good for the wings? Or does it really need to be balsa? Thank you!
@joshuawfinn Жыл бұрын
Google the 3 I mentioned as working well and check them out. Bamboo is viable but you have to manually strip it down, which is not easy in comparison to sliding balsa through a stripping tool.
