Your space looks like it's about the same size as mine, about 350 sq. feet. It's difficult to do much of anything in it. Good video. I also use Godox. This video would have been improved if you'd shown a behind the scenes of you actually working in such a small space.

First video i see on your channel. Really helps out a lot. New sub. What color whould you recommend for portrait as a first backdrop? White, grey?
@LauraBC
@LauraBC 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jimmy! Thank you so much! 🙏🏼 As a first backdrop, if you don’t have white wall (it perfectly works for portraits), I would take white. If you separate your subject from the back, you will be able to get the white backdrop looking grey. 😊 I personally love shooting with black backdrop as well. So it is up to you what you like more. :)

Back in the early 90's I had to run some film to a local studio. I was shocked at the size of it, both big AND small. Big in the fact they had a white wall and it curved where it met the floor to be seamless. He had a gallon of paint beside it because they would constantly repaint to keep it perfectly white (remember, this is way before Photoshop). It was small in the fact that he showed me an area they did tight portraits, much like your examples. A large softbox, hair light on a black background. I couldn't believe how tight the area was! I had no idea that portraiture could be done like that and it helped my , years later, set up my first studio. Now Neewer and other companies, plus digital make portraiture SO much more affordable and accessible. This was a great video to let people know that they can do this. Keep it up, Laura!

I get you sooo well! Time ago everything was so inaccesible and gear way much more expensive. Now, knowing a bit what to get, we can build a decent studio even in tiny places for professional work. Thanks a lot for watching and bringing me back to the old photography era. 😍🎞 Big hug from London! :)

Some good unbiased advice here and so honestly presented. Should be noted the car size backdrops (think 2.18 metre) are around same price as the 2.72M - if you look at the Tetenal website. When I started there wasn't a car size option but luckily the 2.7 metere drop fitted in my Nissan hatchback and later Camry saloon from one corner of the boot (trunk) through to the passenger seat footwell or resting on the dash against the windscreen :/ I might later saw off a piece to give me a more practical length of backdrop to work with on a client's premises. So I had to use stands which I agree are the biggest pain for using up floor space but lightweight and one of the few pieces of equipment you will never need to replace. These paper rolls are easy to cut with a regular hand saw meaning you shouldn't be put off getting a 2.7 metre drop. You can then cut to the size that suits your needs. As I said price difference between 2.18 (or 2.08) and full size is negligible depending on where you look :)

Holaaaa! Poquito a poco vete adquiriendo equipo.

I love your video & your energy is fantastic. Great to have it broken down like this - photographers can get much too technical and I'm very much just in my first couple of years as a professional. I'm based in New Zealand and with house prices here we haven't got the ability to go into a bigger house - our house is tiny - to allow me to set up a studio - and I'd like more flexibility when it comes to family photos instead of being beholden to the weather all the time. I'm getting a hobby room built that I wasn't going to use as a studio. but a writing room. It's 2.4 x 2.4 m with double doors that open onto a small deck. I actually think maybe I could make it work as a studio, initially as a natural light studio. I'm really interested in what lens you use for portrait photography. And your portraits are stunning by the way, wow.

Eey! Very informative video! What focal lengths you're normally using in your studio?
@LauraBC
@LauraBC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sauli! Thank you so much! :) I use my 25-105mm depending on how much I want to cover in frame. For half-body shots I use a wider focal length but for close-up portraits I can even manage with the my 105mm going right to the other side of the room. 🥰

I love your work but honestly i cannot understand why would you ever move to london from anywhere in spain. To me it sounded like you wanted to go there and have a hard & poor life while living expensive :)
@LauraBC
@LauraBC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Bogdan! Thank you! Glad you like my work! :) It's very easy to understand. In Spain, there are no jobs at all, no creative industry and you couldn't even get a photography gig even for free. :D We are in a big crisis since well before 2013. In London? I ended up shooting with international music artists, became the creative director of a fashion company and I had salaries that I could never imagine in Spain. The rent? is just the price you have to pay to live in such an amazing city full of opportunities. :) Not a poor life at all! just the opposite! :D If you want to fulfil your dreams, you must go wherever you can make them happen! :) I miss Spain, is so damn beautiful. But we are in a very bad situation over there. People see Spain very good because is awesome for holidays. Try to live there and grow your career... A very different reality.

@@starktus Exactly. Spain is incredible. Best weather, people, food, landscape... I miss it a lot! ❤️ But the economy is real bad... I want to come back in some point but for now, London is being the best place for me creatively talking. :) I hope to visit my family soon! When they allow us to travel. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I stumbled to your youtube channel by an accident and found this video. A really good one and inspiring since I’ve been looking into creating my own home studio. I’ve got the lights with 2 godox ad-200 and one godox v1 and also the godox sl-60w. Some light modifiers also but no good backdrop yet. Will be my next investment together with a backdrop stand. Thinking on a black canvas or should I get paper? Paper should be better I think.. For lenses i`ve 35 and 85 F1.8 Sony so they should do the work just fine for starters. So my question is paper or canvas? Keep up the good work and you have my sub! :)

Hi Toni! Very nice to meet you and have u around here. Glad you found my channel! :)) You have great equipment and those lenses are definitely perfect to create some amazing shots! 😍 For background, definitely paper. I always use paper and I love it! They last a lot if you take care of them properly, they don’t crease and they are very easy to storage too. I can’t recommend them enough! :)) A very good trick if you shoot with people, is to put tape under the shoes, on the sole. That way they don’t make the paper dirty and it last longer. I used to do that when working with models in a fashion company. It works very good. 😂 Hugs from London! :)

When you use the tether cable on shoot, you see the pictures appearing on you computer. Does that work on any software such as Luminar? Or is it a specific software ?
@LauraBC
@LauraBC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! The best software for tethering are Adobe Lightroom and Capture One. They are the main ones every photographer and professional studio use. I personally use Adobe Lightroom. You just have to connect the cable to the camera and the computer and within Lightroom go to File>Tether Capture>Start Tether capture Then you are ready to go and you will see every photo while you shoot. :)
