My goodness, you are as tall as my son in law! Very nice home for the doves. The only doves we have are the mourning doves and we lost those so many years ago, when we had an unusual spring and all the birds died from being frozen to death. We had an unprecedented Spring ice storm and all the birds were coated with a thick coating of ice. It's taken more than 30 years but most of them are starting to come back. Stay safe.

From Canada. My husband was born at Gairlochhead and then at four-years-old move to Edinburgh during the war. His best friend, and son of parents University Chum, was in the old colonial style, left in Edinburgh, while the friends parents returned to church of Scotland mission in India. My husband's parents took the opposite course, and his father quit as chief medical officer in Kuala Lumpur, and returned to Britain when it was time to educate the children. The parents being friends, the son was taken under the family wing and the boys spent their weekends together having great adventures and talking in Goon Show quips. My husband went down to do Engineering with Rootes, while the friend became a church of Scotland minister. After engineering, my husband came to Canada. His friend died last year, the day after they both talked on the phone and a year after we visited him at Glenelg near Skye. Yesterday's post brought a letter from his son, enclosing some of my husband's letters written during the exile years in Coventry, in post war England, doing his engineering. They were fascinating from one teenager to another. My husband's great longing for Scotland, again and again expressed in his missing the architecture, and the stonework. The beauty of the countryside. He grew up in Sir Walter Scott's home on George Square, and found it hard to accept the brickwork of Blake's Dark Satanic Mills of the Midlands. It took until his 3rd year until he felt somwhat settled, and it was being comfortable with cars. In his youth he also spent a lot of time in East Lothian as his Dr father was friends of the monks at Nunraw. So these stone landscapes, and ducuts, and stone drywall and castles and architecture are a big part of his soul. We were to go to the UK for our son's wedding in England in July, where we would have headed North again to Scotland. But it looks like the Covid 19 will not let that happen. A long story, but it shows the depth of the friendship that these letters were saved for over 60 years, and how love of the stone is buried deep in the Scots. Thank you.
