That is really neat. Now you need to build a pair Mrs. Robots to go with the pair of Mr. Robots. :-)

Hey Andy, love idea and great how to. About the wiring - I don’t know how wiring works in the U.S. but here in Australia, we also have a third ‘earth’ wire coming from the wall socket. I am fairly certain this is the same In the U.K. Typical wiring of electrical appliances with a metal body like a microwave oven or washing machine, the earth should be directly attached to the metal body to short out any would be electrocution hazard. Eg. If one of those wires worked it’s way loose from their connectors they could come into contact with the metal frame. This would not be pleasant for the next person working the lamp. Albeit the Edison bulb is a cool idea - I think a transformer and 12volt L.E.D Edison style light may be a safer choice for most of your viewers. I should also note that in some places/states like where I live here in Victoria, it is actually illegal for a non-qualified person to do electrical work. But like you said, seek professional advice when working with mains current. Cheers

Andy, I do electrical work in my profession. So may I make a recommendation that you add a ground wire to that contraption? You know, that third wire, or green wire that hooks onto that extra screw that's on that toggle switch? It would mean substituting that wiring with a 3-wire cord (hot, neutral and ground). Not saying it has to be done, just thinking safety.

Andy, very cool idea and results, but as it’s all metal don’t you guys have an earth cable system; any metal electrical fittings here in the uk need to be earthed for safety, just wondering

Be careful wiring switches up like that… that’s the old school method. Where they broke the Neutral at the switch. Meaning that light always has potential and always has voltage at that socket regardless of the switch. You want to put the hot coming in on the switch first then out to the light. Very awesome Robot dude I enjoyed your video 👍🏻

Unless you have the polarity reversed of course ! If so disregard

Black is hot white is neutral. Switch should be on the hot wires not the neutral. And check that polarity is correct. incorrect polarity will make the bulb threads hot.

@roberthomicz65524 жыл бұрын
you can use them as your work light and you should three wires black is hot ,the white wire is neural and the green or copper wire is your ground
