Stanley - Thanks a bunch for the video. I learned alot and just finished a 560 sq ft cutless paver patio with using your tips. It took about 21/2 weeks of off and on time but looks great. The stairs were a little tricky but got them figured out, had to go to 3 steps due to height. Thanks again for the video.

Great work Stan! I've built about 15 patios...with tricky design & fire pits in them. A 1° slope for every 8-10 ft out will keep water running away from the foundation of the house. You learn the cuts and angles as you go. Excellent and informative video with precise detail. Keep the videos & work you do coming for us viewers! Customer preference for sand choice imo. Ants and weeds is a great selling point for poly. Using the polymeric sand and not sweeping or blowing off the remaining dust and colour pigment properly will stain the bricks after the watering process. This will make your job look dusty, cloudy or milky looking. If patio or driveway/walkway is not slightly watered at about a half a dozen times waiting 10-15 min between each watering application there is a possibility it may get over watered and start to pool. Over watering can cause the pigment to come to the surface. Polymeric sand is excellent, if used properly. Great videos. Keep up the good work!

I used the sand to level my screed rods so I had over an inch on one side (2 inches) I had watched this video and was nervous. I plate compacted the pavers and everything came out perfect, just like on a small 8x8 pad I did by my pool that is over 5 years old and is holding up like the day it was installed. They key is the polymeric sand, it prevents your worst enemy (water) from getting into the seams, and it also has adhesive properties.

Great video! I laid mine down 5 years ago the old fashion way {note I use my common sense - I used to build roads} I broke up my old patio into small pieces compacted by hand and water and did the 3 part method like you build a road. It took a week of prep before I laid the stones. I also had to do a 3 way pitch because of the location and my house angles for water shed. I haven't had any issues with ants or vegetation. and nothing had shifted. Just to let everyone know living Minnesota you have to apply general engineering because of the harsh changes in climate. Frost, water, ice, extreme cold and hot weather will affect your patio. ** DO NOT use that polysand epoxy crap because it will destroy your patio in two years with chipping, vegetation, ANTS. I spent many years down in Brazil Amazon area and took note on their construction as well as viewed contractors in Amsterdam NE. laying bricks. SOLID foundation is the KEY! Correct WATER SHED and management is crucial! Again Thumbs up on your VIDEO!!!

Great video, very informative. I’m really glad I watched this at the beginning of my patio project. Definitely will need to go over my budget to include rental equipment with dirt as soft and loose as ours. Thanks for sharing! A pro tip for you: “Irregardless” is a double negative like “ain’t nothing” or “won’t not”. The proper word is “Regardless”. It does matter. In addition to misrepresenting what you re trying to say, it sounds uneducated. Don’t give anyone an opportunity to question your obvious experience and hard earned expertise by undermining your own authority, using “hick language”. I will definitely check out your other videos!

You are doing a fantastic job of educating people on the RIGHT way to do a paver patio. My company services the St. Louis area and have done our fair share of patios. You hit the nail on the head with prep work. My only suggestion would be to look into Gator Dust, which is a calibrated stone material mixed with polymer binders. As a company I will give a 5 year warranty with a patio, if they use this product. Thank you for promoting quality work instead of just going after a sale.

You never mentioned about separating the base, and the sand! Always separate the two! Techniseal nexgel poly sand is amazing stuff! I use it on every patio and never would recommend regular Mason sand unless needing a permeable paver system. Love the cut-less patio, no waste, less labor and even better, no dust floating down to the neighbors. I know, use water, but I hate using water, it's so messy.

I own Billings Landscaping located in Montana. I have some input regarding polymeric sand. We have had both success and failures with polymeric sand. What we learned is that the polymeric sand works better if the joints are wider...therefore, use spacers when laying pavers (even 1/8" uniform space will improve the longevity of the polymeric sand. In addition, we have begun formulating our own polymeric blends using portland cement, grout sand, and polymers. When using the custom blend, the problem you run into is surface staining from the fine powder of portland cement. The solution we found is to use an air compressor to clean fine portland dust from the pavers before misting with water. The end result is a cement joint that behaves more like a mortar. One more tip: We like to use pea gravel in combination with sand as a leveling base for the pavers.
