Hey I think it came out awesome man. Great job and like your statement at the end of the video nothing like accomplishing something and getting the proud feeling. Was surfing the net for some ideas on building a carport and came across your video. Really enjoyed watching it. And again nice job man. You should be proud.

The idea to thicken up the posts for the bold look- genius. You have inspired me to do the same thing on my back patio. I have been planning it for a while and that bold look will set it off. Well done.

I was impressed with how well it matched the style of the home! -- and amazed it was your first project-- by yourself! I also think its important to know what NOT to do next time, or else people like me would make the same mistakes. So, thanks for the inspiration and education!

Looks great! I've got about the same experience but am afraid to tackle this project (though I desperately need one over my front porch). I've built a picnic table and a 3-step porch with a landing that I'm very proud of. Building a dining room table now and then maybe the overhang. Inspiring video. Thanks for sharing!!

man , you remind me of my first do it yourself job. it looked similar to yours and i was so proud of myself , only difference was i had to learn it from tv shows & ask alot of questions cos internet was new at the time. i was very surprised when the local builder called me a "handyman" lol. Good work mate and yes , we all learn from our mistakes.

I am considering doing something very similar. We had a canvas dome awning over our exterior basement door (we built house into a hill) but it needed replacing. After pricing a replacement, I reconsidered. We could cover more of the concrete patio for less money by building something like this. But, we don’t have any experience with this type of work. I’m an electrician and welder by trade so steel is my preferred medium, not practical for home improvement, but all of our electrical equipment is either automatic, remote or motion activated. This may not be the most “professional” job but I think it is outstanding. As another comment said, it is more of a motivational video, which was exactly what I needed, THANK YOU FOR SHARING, I THINK YOU DID A GREAT JOB!!!

+Jesse Mendoza Eh, you might want to watch a couple of videos from actual carpenters. 1. You don't want to just nail into the fascia. 2. The beam should bear on the posts. As constructed, a few nails are holding the roof up. Good thing it's not a deck. If he knew what he was doing, he could have done the job properly with less material cost than what he used.

Thanks Deputy, I didn't use any nails other than the roofing. We don't get much snow, but we did get 12 inches of snow a few years ago and it had a foot of snow on top of the structure for about 3 or 4 days, it held up so far. I may make a few adjustments.

Glad to hear it is working so far. I was thinking that the ledger board should be placed at the top of the frame and screwed into the sill. Obviously this would reduce your height, but I think it would make it stronger. However yours has been holding up so I guess it's ok. But I live in a hurricane prone area so i think I would do that.
