Hi Martin, I'm really sorry to hear things have been tough for you but I'm so glad to hear that the videos have given you some enjoyment. It really does make it all worthwhile, even when I'm cursing at the fact I've stuck my fingers together with superglue! I wish you the very best with your recovery and thanks for watching 😃

That's a lovely scene and an excellent tutorial. I've used this bridge a few times and agree that it's great for beginners as you get a really nice result.

@@jamfjord There are some similar bridges on the SDR but they will probably need to be scratch built.

I often find the most important part of modelling a scene is bedding everything in to look like it's been there for a while. Thanks for watching 😃
@timsully895810 ай бұрын
Excellent tutorial mate! It’s a simple kit but how effective it is in creating a larger scene! Those wee kits re excellent as I find they can be picked up quite cheaply and yet a bit of careful paint application makes them seem like top notch modelling! Their girders are another great value item as are their various structures, and so easy to adapt to your individual needs once you become familiar with how the various parts fit together! 😎 Not long until the exhibition now, eh? 😜👍🍀🍻💚
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
Yes, just shows how a simple kit can still look really good when used in the right way. Stepping out of the world of "movie magic" for a moment, the exhibition has already been and gone and I'm currently editing all the footage from it. Thanks for watching 😃

A great little video, and it was posted at just the right time as my grandson is considering using one on his 009 layout. Watching this may help him decide if he will or not, but I think once he sees how easy it is he will probably decide to build one....cheers James 🙂👍
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
Awesome, I do hope it helps him decide. If he does go for it personally I'd recommend the single line version as that would probably look more in keeping on a 009 layout. Thanks for watching 😃

@ThatModelRailwayGuy we watch all of your videos together, and I'll tell him to have a look at the single one. I'm sure he'll post updates on his channel once he gets started on it. So far, he's got the baseboard built and is finalising his plan 🙂👍

I’m in a similar situation with the water tower kit, for a very old kit there is no articles/videos/posts on the kit for help painting and building the kit, fun kit but a shame it’s seen such little love

Great scene. The handrails seem to high, though. When I built the model, the tapered section of the handrail verticals fits into the tapered "web stiffeners" on the face of the external beams , placing the handrails at the correct hight.

Quite possibly, I just followed the instructions provided, which admittedly could be clearer hence the video. I believe I did try them the other way round initially but I seem to remember the cutout notches on the bottom looked really weird. Thanks for watching 👍

I made a single crossing out of mine, could have done with your video few weeks ago but I worked it out. I think it's a great little model, should really be less than £5 but priced fairly well considering other things on sale. Hope I can make the scene look as good as yours when I come to scenics, although as you will see on my videos I've got a lot less room to work with 😂 👍
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
Yes I know what you mean, it's a fairly simple kit and it's been around for a while now... mind you if it's still selling well why wouldn't they drop the price. This particular module is only 60cm x 50cm in total so I wouldn't say space has to limit how much scenery you can get in, as long as you're smart about it. Thanks for watching 😃

I personally would have painted the bridge a rust colour to make it more realistic to make it look like it’s been outside for decades. What do you think?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
Hmm, it's up to you but I've never seen an in use railway bridge like this covered in rust. Maybe the odd small patch here or there but generally if it's rusting away then the railway would replace it. I believe they're usually covered in anti-rust paint to prevent exactly that... certainly the ones I've seen on the railway where I volunteer tend to be covered in dirt and grime, but of course it's up to you how to paint it. Thanks for watching 👍

I noticed on your wall an enlarged railway ticket, which I think looks great. Can I ask where you purchased it from, please? Can they be personalised? I wonder. Do you have any intention to show your layout at the Warley NEC Exhibition or Key Model World event at the NEC?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
Hiya, it wasn't actually purchased. It's essentially a large birthday card that was given to my Grandad by fellow railway volunteers when he turned 80 so it's not something you can buy I'm afraid. That said, it literally is just a large print out of a ticket stuck on some cardboard so wouldn't be that difficult to make something similar yourself. As for showing the layout at Warley or Key Model World Live, I'd definitely be up for it but that's not my decision. That's a question more for the organisers who choose the layouts that go on display. Thanks for watching 😃
@dinmorejunctionmodelrailway10 ай бұрын
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Have you approached them! I'm sure your subs having watched your progress would love to see it in person. Nice you made something special from the card. Right constructive criticism. I know you don't need no KZbinr's do but remember we are here to help sometimes. Your introduction. As you speak your face is coved up with That Model Railway Guy headboard. Why? Just wait let the headboard fade out then speak.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
I think it's a case of knowing the right people. Key Model World tend to use layouts they've featured in the magazine and as far as I know Warley don't have a way to submit layouts. I suspect like many other exhibitions it's done on an invitation basis otherwise they'd have tons of people wanting to display layouts. As for the intros and the logo, it's simply a case of keeping things moving. If you don't start talking within 5-10 secs of a video starting a lot of people will tune out - we can track this directly in the analytics. I could go off on a whole tangent about how to play the KZbin game but essentially the way it is now helps to keep people watching videos for longer, which is essentially what everyone wants.
@dinmorejunctionmodelrailway10 ай бұрын
@ThatModelRailwayGuy I'll bow to your knowledge, but I mentioned this to another KZbinr, and his intro is better because of it.

Can I please ask the height of the bridge? From the top of the track rails to the top of the baseboard beneath?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
Hi Kenneth, from baseboard surface to rail top is 53mm, bearing in mind that above the bridge the track is sits on a wooden structure with a cork base layer too. For reference the height of the kit from baseboard to bridge deck is 46mm. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
@kbriffa10 ай бұрын
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Thanks. Can I be a bit cheeky and also ask for the clearance under the bridge. I'm about to decide on the heights on my layout and this would really help.

I wonder how similar this kit is compared to the Ratio/Wills kit version as Peco owns both brands.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
It's exactly the same kit, just different branding depending where/when you buy it. You can see at the start of the video the packet still has Wills Kits on it though. Thanks for watching 😃
@bentullett606810 ай бұрын
@ThatModelRailwayGuy another kit range to look at is the Gaugemaster range. I purchased the loading platform one and for the money you get two kits in one as it caters for those who want brick effect walling and those who want stone effect walling.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
Yes I used their Loco Depot kit as the main shed for my layout.
@davidballoid211810 ай бұрын
Most of the time, we modelers scratch build Small Bridges, Culverts, and Trestles as most kits fall short of resembling a specific bridge for that time period in witch their trying to model or replicate.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
I would say that the name "modeller" is a very broad term. While there are some that enjoy scratchbuilding, not everyone has the skills, time or passion for it. Some simply prefer building kits, others may use ready made structures - there's no right or wrong way to go about building a layout after all. Thanks for watching 👍
@dialwright10 ай бұрын
'Occupation' and 'occupational' are not interchangeable. You are modelling an occupation bridge. Regards from the Pedant.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy10 ай бұрын
If that is the case your comments would be better directed at PECO given that they're the ones selling this kit. I'm just going by what they've named it since that's what others will also be looking for. Thanks for watching 👍

@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I’m guessing somebody has already told PECO, seeing as it is an error, and PECO is a well-known company.
