I am in the process of planning a 30x30 pole barn myself and have been searching the internet to get ideas on the total process. Not too many none company people take the time or make the effort showing others the beginning steps to the finished product in which they went about planning and carrying out the building process like you have done and like you I don't want to hire someone else to do the building process; I want to do it. I personally want to thank you for taking the time for documenting then sharing your project and techniques in all 8 of your videos which I am downloading as I type. Your videos have answered a great deal of questions I had from the first step to the last. The only draw back I will have in my own project is that I am a truck driver on the road for a good bit of time but after seeing your videos I now know how I can have a good quality pole barn just doing a little at a time; step by step paying attention to detail. You would make a very good Instructor or Teacher. I have spoken to salesmen in my area about purchasing a pole barn kit and they all tell me I need a concrete pad but I believe that a gravel pad will work better for me and save me money. Question: I noticed you didn't do a concrete pad; to save money or just didn't want one? Thank you again.

Feddie- I wish I had had this instruction about 10 yrs ago. I built a barn for a lady back then and I really thought I was gonna lose it from thinking/worrying about all the little details that kept jumping up to bite me, not to mention all the sleep I lost. I'd wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning and the brain would engage on the details of this project & I just could not go back to sleep. This is a fantastic series and I enjoyed it immensely. The side comments are entertaining, I guess because a lot of it is exactly what I would say. Oh- one thing I might do differently is pour concrete pilings in sonotubes, set some brackets in them and then bolt my posts to that. I read some of the comments on the posts rotting and that change might help with that. Keep up the great work and Semper Fi.

I'm planning on purchasing an all metal pole barn that will be assembled and finished by a General Contractor, but watching your building series taught me not only 'terms' (i.e. names for things) it helped me understand the process and with that knowledge I can plan, design and communicate my ideas, much better in the long run... If you remember, I placed a comment early on in this series of videos. At that time I thought your videos and work were fantastic. You never let me down. All the videos from part 1 through part 8 were all encompassing with valuable information throughout each episode. I'm sure I will never build a poll barn. At 71 it's a little late for me to do that kind of work but I do plan to build a storage building for my 4-wheeler and trailer. Probably 12X12 or 12X14 and the ideas and techniques I've learned by watching your series of videos will really pay off. Thank you so much for taking the time to help everyone who aspires to build any structure.

***** You may be closer than you think. It sounds to me from listening to you on the videos that you may be from Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee or Georgia. Not sure where you are but I'm in Mississippi. You probably noticed that my storage building has gone from something smaller (8X10 or 10 X10) to 12X12 or 12X14. It doesn't make any difference what size I make it, I'll have the same problem you have, it will be too small. I'm like you though, I want to do it by myself. It's the satisfaction of accomplishing something and knowing you did it without help. I'm not going to go so far as to cut down the trees and mill the lumber myself. And mine won't be as high as yours and I'm thinking of a lean-to roof. Flat with a slope from front to back. The things I've learned from watching your videos will come in handy no matter what the size of the building. Get is square first and get the holes level and so much more. Thanks again.

Well I didn't realize that when I searched for "How To Build A Pole Barn" I would come across something so detailed and well explained. I have to admit I admire your dedication and hard work to making sure everything was done the proper way. Yes as you said there were some things that you would have done different here or there but for the most part you were dead nuts on. I recently purchased a home on 1-1/2 acres and would love to put a barn on the back side of our lot and these videos have really gotten me over the fear of trying this on my own. Thanks again for your helpfulness to mankind and I have subscribed to the channel to see what other videos I've missed before this series and can't wait for future updates.

I watched this for a second time. I just can’t get up the nerve to get started, because like you I would be doing most of the work myself (I’m 56 fat and outta shape). It hurts me to pay so much extra for someone else to do the construction. Also, I don’t have room to have everything delivered at once and by doing it myself I could get material as it is needed. I appreciate the time you took to create the video series.

Thanks, Greg. I appreciate the compliments! I'm really glad to have this thing done. Well, kinda done. I've spent the last couple of days assessing the things left to do. Trim, siding, doors, etc. It will keep me busy this summer! This weekend I leveled up the floor with a couple loads of dirt and spread about ten tons of crush & run. Then I poured about six bags of Portland cement on it, wet it real good, and ran a compactor over it. This morning it was hard as can be. Poor man's concrete. We'll see how it holds up over time.

Hey Feddie. My name is Mike and I've been watching your pole barn series throughout the winter. Great job on the pole barn. I like the way you framed it by notching the posts and using the bookshelf girt style. Getting ready to start my 32x 48 as soon as the weather cooperates. Im in upstate ny and the frost is still in the ground. You helped keep me motivated this winter watching you. Like the way you think , and how you take your time making things square, also like your idea of getting the posts on the same plane by adjusting the concrete. Im going to try to utilize that as I will be going at it mostly on my own. Thanks for the series, lots of good tips. Keep up the great work!

My wife and I just finished watching all of your videos in this Pole Barn series. The editing was fantastic and with just the right amount of detail. I too like to build alone and found it refreshing to see that it CAN be done. I will certainly heed your advise and get help when and where needed. I also snagged your material list and SketchUp model... to both help MY build as well as support your future projects.

Just watched your pole barn video series in one sitting LOL - couldn't break away from it. I'm trying to work up the courage to build one like this myself, but will try to put in garage doors on the bays (not sure how yet). Thanks so much for all the incredible detail you put into the series, as well as transparency on cost. You rock!

Awesome series on the plow barn build. I know it’s about 5 years old but I really enjoy watching it and am amazed you took the time to make the models and provided all the detailed information. After watching all the videos I feel like I actually know you. Lol. Thanks again awesome work.

Just finished the pole barn series and wished I had seen this before I built my tractor shed. This is much nicer and more functional. Maybe I will add on and use this as a guide! I really enjoy your presentation style and look foreard to more of your videos. Your website is already on my favorites list.

I was going to have a 26X40 pole barn built by a contractor. My buddy has built quite a few and kept nagging me that he wanted to help build my pole barn and save me the $4000 labor cost. I watched your series and it changed my mind. It's a lot of work but with him having access to the Bobcat with auger, Skytrak, Cement Truck, Lazer Level, Airless Nailers etc I couldn't say no to that. So we will be starting this August 2014. Thanks for all the hard work of putting this series together. I know how much time it takes to put together videos with all the camera set up editing involved. Great Job!

I have shared this series with a few people to help them understand what a pole barn actually is. I am in the beginning stages of building a 2 story 24x40 that is very similar to your setup. Mine will have a living area on the top story. I will be building this within inches of my house so that it can be attached and have my master bedroom above the garage accessible by stairs from the main home. Thank you for taking the time to put all of this together. It has really helped me visualize what I was struggling to see in my head.

Hey I have watched this from day one to the end. I have spent a lot of hours here at the computer, but would have cost a fortune to learn everything if you put it in perspective. So I saw it as free knowledge. I want to build a 40x60 similar but for a house...I know some people may frown on the idea of living in a "pole barn", but hey I'm young and want to live mortgage free. I had an idea on where to start but you will save me so much time in planning and materials list etc. It is so much easier to learn from someone else than to learn by mistake...and its cheaper to not have to buy another 6x6 post if I cut it wrong. I love all of your videos and love how you go through each simple minute step that may seem common sense to some but not all. You are a great teacher and I really appreciate all of the videos. from Missouri

Just watched all 8, as a North Carolina GC i would like to say nice job!! I am getting ready to start a 20 X 36. You gave me some good ideas on my roof framing, i am old school and was going to stick frame 16" on center, i think now wider spacing with purlins saves a lot of extra work and $. I also have a Kabota with implements that need to be out of the weather. Thanks for your time for this video, very helpful.

I learned a lot watching your series. I watched it back then when you put the video out. We built two open pole barns for our travel trailers 14x40 . I didn't follow all of your methods exactly but took a lot from it. I didn't bury the poles I used quicrete tube piers. I trimmed top of pole vs trying to sink them precise. Came out pretty good, so thank you.

I watched your entire series as I'm getting ready to build my own 36x60x20 pole barn. Doing all the work myself and while there are going to be differences in construction methods (plus there will be a second floor in mine), your videos have been excellent at getting my head around a lot of these construction techniques that will be new to me. It's been a great way to ease my concerns and your tips will be very valuable in getting the job done right the first time. Great series, keep up the good work!
