This is a great idea, I heard you say early on that the mirrored sides are folded to the inside! Great for areas that you may not be able to set up a more permanent blind! A little strip of hook and loop tape and it can stay closed tight when walking!

good job overall...there are some things to think about though- when i made mine, i stayed away from wood, yes it would be lighter, but you have to take into consideration the swelling if you have it out in the rain...you also would have to think about the adhesive losing tack after being exposed to the elements...thats why i chose plexiglass. although i like the fabric hinges and glued fabric backing, you would have to think about mold...if it gets wet, its gonna start to stink cont'd

I really like your idea of using your old blue jeans for making denim hinges for the sections. Great idea and it's recycling also . Throw some scotch guard spray on the material and it will shed water also. I have looked at making this out of already mirrored Polycarbonate sheets skipping the whole window tint steps but it is VERY expensive unless you can find a good source for buying it .

I finally received an answer that you used the spray adhesive on the mirrored side of the wood to hold the mylar in place. Thankyou for finally making that clear. I have several suggestions. I have looked at material at Lowes and found a interior paneling that looks pretty durable and only cost $10.oo for a 4x8 sheet. I also found mylar used for wrapping bodies at massage parlors that is 1/5 cost of the window mirrored film. I am not sure if it is durable enough but I am checking.

@jmyers73 Sorry it took so long to respond. Yes I have used it. I am not an avid hunter but love to get out in the woods. I had several fox pups get within about 10 feet of the blind one afternoon and they never knew I was there. That was worth the build in my opinion.
@jimmytubejames14 жыл бұрын
@MrTigerprincess The fabric backing and mirror film was applied with the spray adhesive. Follow the direction on the film essentially but use the spray adhesive to hold down. My film had a backing which needed removed first. I cut the pieces a bit oversize and then trimmed with a razor. Overall the blind works very well, very light. I was going for the cheapest price. If I would have used Plexiglas or similar material the cost would have been to expensive to justify vs a commercial one.

Thanks for the inspiration. 👍 I have just stumbled on the ghost blind and seen your video. I like to make most of my shooting accessories eg sticks /seats and hides. This is going to be the next project I think. Thanks again.

@MrTigerprincess You are going to have to apply several coats of a sanding sealer to get the surface real smooth. Sand with 120 grit and remove dust with a tack cloth. I used contact cement to apply the fabric (it cheaper and better) to two outer panels have to be space 1/2" apart and the center is butted together. I made my peep hole 12" from the top, its even with the gun port. Gun port is 4" wide.(2" on each panel) the carrying holes are about 9 1/2" from the bottom of the gun port. Nice

That turned out great!! Would there be more advantage to making two more sections to close the back? I have a place where I need to use one of those. Thanks for video.

I am about to be building the first ever full size (4'x6') mirrored deer blind. I have many people wanting one, but I am using mylar reflective film and the secret is what material I am using to adhere the mylar film to and also what adhesive I am using.
@jimmytubejames12 жыл бұрын
I have never had it fog and do not see why it would, it is the same temp as the outside. Even if it had a couple scratches it would not effect it much. I believe people like these because they are very light, portable and are nearly invisible. I can move across an open field with mine and stay hidden. Awesome blind.

I agree, it was setup so easily see the product. Normally I am in tall grass or in the brush away from the hard edge of the woods. Check out the short video of the fox I was able to gradually move close to in the video description.

First, great idea. I was hovering around the same concept myself. How is the luan holding up to the outdoors? I think I am going to do the same thing, perhaps with eucatex material. I will probably paint the whole thing with an exterior black paint previous to adding reflective material. Might use some spray paint on the inside for "camo" pattern instead of the camo fabric.

You made this years ago. How much have you used it? How has it stood up to being used?? What would you do differently???

@jimmytubejames Dear sir: I am desperately trying to figure out how you applied mirrored finish to wood, and was the mirrored product the window film others used or some form of Mylar foil and what made it stick. Your video is completely void of any explanation on the most important step.

Nice job. Ive been thinking about making one of these also, but I am curious as to good they work I'd love to hear if your efforts were worth it.. I was thinking of using chloroplast sheets to make it lighter. Got a sign shop here in town I can get it pretty cheap from.
@jimmytubejames14 жыл бұрын
Corrugated plastic for sign making may work. It is light and cheap but the waviness of the board may produce ripples in the mirror. I would like to see one if anyone can post a video. I am of the opinion if the cost approaches170-180 dollars you might be just as well to buy a commercial product. my 2cents.

Great vid. I am getting ready to make a version of yours with changes and about $40-$60 cheaper. But before I start, I was wondering if you had used yours yet and the results? Reason I ask is I know spray adhesive and spray paint has a strong smell and was wondering if that was detected by the deer or letting it "air out" got rid of the smell? Thanks

jmyers73 My husband and I built a ground blind, when finished, I used spray paint on the outside of it, the deer had no problem walking 17 yards from us as we were painting it, and they had no problem coming back during bow season

Nice One question if you still read this or can post back . did you use waterproof material or when that material gets wet does it add weight to it and is it soaking into the wood or did you treat the wood also so that it didn't soak up water . that was an ingenious idea, it looks nice Kudos

this is uncanny i had the same idea as you having seen the ghost blind and went and bought some mylar foil..not as a point of critisism,do you think maybe leather,an old jacket cut up would have been better for a longer life of your hinges

Couldn't you use foam construction insulation sheets. Lighter but not as sturdy. Would need to be tied down for sure if windy at all. Easy to cut, already has foil on front and back. Could still use the window tint and fabric if wanted.

Why did you choose this wood vs corrugated plastic?
@imdawolfman26983 жыл бұрын
Nice work, but your placement in the snow leaves something to be desired. If you'd set it back a little with a few of those pecker poles and low brush reflected in it it wouldn't stand out pure white against the brush and you'd still have the full view.

What i found was its best used not in a brushline or treeline. Like in this video, you end up being a white rectangle in a treeline. If he moved back like 30 feet, he woulda been gone with the twigs.
@bowhunter4e14 жыл бұрын
unless you take the time to waterproof it, but then its still gonna stink like waterproofer rather than must, but you would still have the problem of the plywood soaking up water like a sponge, then bubbling the foil, ultimately peeling everything off...like i said, good job overall...i love the fact that peope are making their own in lieu of paying out the ass!!
@edwardenglish15196 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of Plexiglas but I don't think that this would be out in the weather long enough for it to gather mold or anything like that. and as long as it is opened in the garage or a spare room to allow any dew on it to dry, it should be G2G.
@jimmytubejames12 жыл бұрын
Honestly since this video was made GhostBlind has created a product for about 140 bucks. If they had one at that cost when I did this I would have probably just purchased it.

It has been asked and not answered... How did you apply the reflective material. The box says to use on inside of window. Does not instruct how to use on wood or other material? Did you use the spray adhesive to glue down the reflective material as well as the camo material? You left out the most important part of building the Blind. HOW DID YOU ATTACH THE MIRRORED FILM????????

@jimmytubejames Really I'm only going by the reviews I saw on cabales alot of people said they got scratched up or. Foged. Up easly. Personally I use a normal ground blind the same one for the past 15 years. Works great. Sets up fast. And is. Very light

The sun has nothing to do with it. The blind is angled out to reflect the ground in front of the unit. Go to the Ghostblind site and see their videos. It is amazing how this unit will blend in. Better than a camo blind. I use it mainly to view wild life and it works.

I don't hunt-never shot a gun-but-if you wanted to hunt OR just observe nature, why not use the lightest possible wood and make it a full circle ? you wouldn't need any inside cover,and would have the mirror camo effect 360 degrees........
