We purchased an inverter generator for boondocking with our Travel Trailer. It’s a quiet generator but wanted to see if we could make it quieter as well as protect it from the outside elements while camping. We wanted to share how we built it and how it works. If you are considering a quiet box for your generator, we hope this video helps!

I like running my Twin Cylinder Harley generator with straight pipe. People love it. You'll notice they immediately turn to look at your awesome generator.

I recommend using acoustic isolation board or foam too! I’m a certified audio engineer and there really is a science behind sound isolation. It’s amazing. Great vid 👍

For my 4K watt Champ I built a box 8 years back. 3 foot square 3/4 ply / 10” fan / hinged lid for fuel / side cutout for access to start switch and receptacles / 4” casters (2 swivel 2 fixed) Fire/soundproof insulation / One open end obviously to take genny out for maintenance. Dropped 19 decibels - happy and no complaints!

Hi there. Getting ready to embark on my skoolie journey. I have a wonderful generator & my next project is to build a box to prevent theft and damage. I am in a little bit of overthinking territory - how would i fire proof this box in a cost effective way? I feel nervous about having an engine in an enclosed wooden space. I have plywood available, so thats what i was going to use.

@jordandebbrecht3276 Thanks for reaching out! Our recommendation would be to line it with Densglass which is fire resistant and sound deadening. They sell this at Home Depot. Hope this helps! Wishing you the best. Thanks for watching. :)

The Box need to be bigger and full enclosed, with air intake & exhaust with baffle. You need to add Rockwool insulation all around to absorb to sound. Then you need to add something like an attic exhaust fan on the top of the box to suck out all that hot air and fumes, then add air intakes all around the bottom of the box. I used a large plastic storage shed with my 6500watt generator and it worked perfectly! all you hear is a low humming. cool air is being sucked in while hot air and fumes air being pushed out.

I love this design. The other videos of boxes I've seen with the vents and fans etc., just seem over the top. What is the longest period you would say you have run the generator in the box? Did you notice any heat or exhaust build up?

@ashtonallen6434 Thank you! We really like the simplicity of this box. It does the job. We have run the generator consistently overnight with no problems. Thanks for watching! 😀

Great video! I noticed your Big Bend hat. This park is the reason we are planning to create a box. We can't use the generator in the park but there a plenty of remote camping sites just outside the park that allows it.

@Jerome Edwards Thank you for watching the video and your kind feedback! We LOVE Big Bend and plan on going back soon which is definitely one of the reasons we made the Quiet Box as well! How long have you used it with the cover on it? I’m in central Florida and it’s hot, mine needs wide open space or it will trip the breaker on the WEN….. just running a 21ft camper 13500btu ac on like 70ish degrees, it’s a shaded campground so not direct sunlight. I’ve run it with a couple of pieces of tinted plexiglass laying on it like a TP with carpet over top to blend in because “quiet time is 10pm”

@HorseHead Mike We have run the WEN all night with the cover on it on several occasions with no issues. It has been in cooler climates and we haven’t used it in warmer climates much. If you are having issues, you can install a soft start on your RV A/C which could help. Thank you for watching our video & we would appreciate your support by subscribing to our channel! 🤩

Install a fan to either push air into or out of the box. You'll need an intake hole and an exhaust hole either way of course.

Good video. I hope you know the nail gun has to be depressed against the wood to wood to operate. Would carpet pad work for sound insulation?

Too bad you did not have a piece of clear lexan for the front piece.

👉🏼 Your nail gun was working and I don’t think you knew it. 🤦‍♂️ The tip where the nail comes out has to be pressed against something 👈🏼 Your generator was already quiet enough. One shock thing after another like having to slide styrofoam in the box that’s not attached👈🏼 From 1 out of 10 I give this video a 3 🥴 Have a good day 😊
