Sick build. I just picked up my first dirt bike after spending years on the road and road racing tracks. 500 exc-f. Totally stock. Not sure why I am looking at borderline pro rally builds. LOL. Круто !

Great video! You look like a tall guy - what have you done wrt ergonomics? Seat looks custom, is that taller than stock? How about risers / pegs?
@SilkRider3 жыл бұрын
Nope that’s the stock seat. The time card pocket there is KTM PowerPart number 79407978000 all you have to do is use grip glue to glue it on. I found that doing a custom seat was too much money that could be spent on spares, and all the other junk you need to do this. Plus you should be on your feet not your ass! KTMs are the tallest bikes out there so unless you’re 8 feet tall you’re not gonna need it higher, and I only know of lowering kits anyway. The stock foot pegs are so grippy and pointy they will put holes in bare feet. Handlebar gets a bit of a rise from the steering damper bracket.
@SilkRider3 жыл бұрын
I’d say the only ergonomic additions would be the ProGrip 786 foam rally grips and the donuts to prevent blisters (KTM PowerPart U6951716). Otherwise just have a good comfy helmet, protection and jacket...

Very good videos, thank you. What would you think of a 500 excf as a platform for a rally built? And of the 701? Thx
@SilkRider2 жыл бұрын
Both are great, but be careful cuz they're more powerful and heavier. I would call 701 rally builds better suited for adv and off road travel. The 500 is much more similar to the 450 though, same chassis, just a slightly bigger cylinder.
@miro_s2 жыл бұрын
@@SilkRider interesting. I thought the 450 was snappier and more challenging than the 500. So, all in all, you’d say the 701 is better suited to rallies like in your videos?
@SilkRider2 жыл бұрын
@@miro_s no, anything over a 450 for rallies is too much especially if you’re not a motocross/enduro/trials athlete. If you’re starting out you want to go lower than a 450, like a 350, so you don’t kill yourself. But a 450 is the sweet spot than can race in rallies and all kinds of disciplines, while also being great for adv touring since they can easily ride on motorways.

Brilliant build and video mate, looks great! I’ve got a 701 enduro I’ve modified with lots of Rade parts to be a TET/Lightweight ADV bike (vid on my channel if interested), but I am wanting to get into rally racing and I’m thinking of getting a dedicated 450 so this has really helped 🤘 thanks!
@SilkRider2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I might make another video soon but I’ve actually switched my 450 to simple handlebar-mounted navigation after a few races with the full nav tower. It may not look as good, but the benefits outweigh; weight savings, simplicity, and cost. Plus I need to take it off after a rally so I can do MX and enduro. Doing that with the nav tower a couple times a year was a nightmare for me. You can get everything you need from Rally Moto Shop or H3D Moto.
@OSR_12 жыл бұрын
@@SilkRider ah nice! Yeah that’s what I was probably going to do, before I got my Rade garage fairing for my 701 I had an Adventure Spec mini fairing, which is super super light and easy to mount / dismount. Will probably put my f2r nav setup on there for easy mounting/dismounting as that’s what it was designed for. Also saves a bunch of money on another fairing that I can put towards entry fees for next season 👍🏽

Can you show a small video how you put all the cables from the right (near the stearing) under that carbon fiber cover under the orginal speedometer? or could you put all cables from the right into the tower?
@SilkRider3 жыл бұрын
You remove the factory plastic bracket holding those cables and replace it with a steel bracket that Rade provides. Taking pics of the original wiring and saving it for later always helps in case you need to go back to original, like I’ve done for now. With the steel Rade rally bracket, it’s really all in your hands from there. I was never really satisfied this first time I assembled the nav equipment because I zip tied all the cables under the speedo against the Rade bracket and routed them directly into the carbon tower (there are two holes in the tower facing the steering head where all the cables are). This resulted in more stress on the cables than I preferred because between the speedo and nav tower you obviously have steering and the nav tower is what is stationary, while the speedo, and consequently your cables, are moving. So when too many cables are bunched up it causes a lot of rubbing and strain on them, which eventually resulted in the Speedocap remote cable fraying and making that remote malfunction. Conclusion: the next time I’m assembling the nav tower (for Hellas Rally in May) I’m planning on routing fewer cables directly between that choke point near the steering head and will look to route cables outside the nav tower instead. I think this will involve drilling holes and maybe using some adhesive cable holders. Basically, don’t do what I did and try and go for a “clean” look. This is not what is important if you’re racing. Route the cables so there’s minimum stress on them and so they also have enough slack for steering. If you need more holes then drill them (after measuring twice). I’ll probably post a vid on electronics in the spring when I build this back up.

@@SilkRider thanks for answering. Ok same problem with me. I use the Rebel X tower on last Hellas Rally. But I was not satisfied with the cable routes. Hope Hellas 2021 will go on.
@SilkRider3 жыл бұрын
@@S2000-z1q yeah I think the stock holes in the towers are for the bare minimum like light and power cables. Then with the nav equipment and especially handlebar switches you can use the exterior of the tower and use spiral cable wrap to give the cables extra protection on the exterior

It sounds like if you plumb the breather from your main tank to the outlet on your sub tank it will suck your sub tank dry first.
@SilkRider3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a really good idea, but I still need a breather to atmosphere so I probably need a splitter somewhere along the line between the tanks right? For now I’m using this to shut off the rear www.motionpro.com/product/12-0035

@@SilkRider have a look at this video "RIDE ADV Tenere 700 fleet 125,000 + accumulative Km's Part4". He shows a similar installation on a T7. To make sure you get suction from the main tank you can get a breather kit from TacoMoto which fits on the top of the main tank and replaces the connection on the main cap.
