My name is Mariel, and I started getting into fashion in the past few years and am learning so much about it. I'm drawn to fashion as I believe it is an art form that not only allows individuals to express themselves but also creates a history and record of different time periods and generations. I don't know that much about how these styles are typically done but I have a background in medieval re-creation and based on that I would recommend ring belts and belt pouches or purses, or hanging anything from your belt. Also potentially keyhole necklines and decorative trim around the cuffs or hems of garments. Maybe more for knightcore since the others seem less historical.

Thank you for the suggestions those sound really cool!! I know my interpretation is not the most historically accurate bc i try to cater to a more everyday & easy to find wardrobe so I really appreciate suggestions from someone with more knowledge!

@@dressrelief it seems from what i;ve seen like a lot is more about ~vibes~ than history which is totally legit. especially with such a wide period of time people are interested in! but it's hard for me not to think of specific things based on my experience that aren't necessarily what other people think of for knights/royal/medieval fashion. but i bet if people went out in ringbelts with belt pouches, even over a t-shirt and jeans, it would end up feeling more medieval! and belt pouches are just as practical as fannypacks but cooler

Mariel ! This is such a helpful informative video as a renaissance fair longtime lover, I used to have to make my costumes and I would thrift ball gowns and other pieces like belts, shoes bags, and make crowns and things myself out of random thrifted or items around my house. There wasn’t Pinterest much at the time so I would take inspiration from old portraits from museums or the other people at the renaissance fairs. I would say if you can a thrift store would be amazing and if you go to the formal section you will find all of the fabrics and gowns and formal wear. You will need to give yourself a gorgeous wardrobe since a lot of people only wear these fancy things for a special occasion once and don’t know what to do with them! And they can be extremely affordable at the thrift store also, perhaps your relatives- mom, aunt grandma, etc. might have very fancy things that you can incorporate into your wardrobe. I am most appreciated your outline on the color palettes for each part of the aesthetic, as well as featuring specific fabrics to keep in mind.

Very late comment, but I've been trying to figure out some additional looks for knightcore that are wearable/versatile on a casual day and capture some of the feelings I got as a kid reading books with lady knights in particular. Jewelry reminiscent of medieval weapons or mythical creatures (dragon, griffon, phoenix, unicorn, etc.) and leather boots that might fit in at a renaissance fair are pretty consistent. Can do linen or otherwise nice quality hooded sweaters, if it's a t-shirt and hoodie the hoodie either or both should have something that strongly evokes fantasy in either cut or a design feature. Saint George motifs work fantastically and peasant tops are also fair game. Still room for the chain mail accessories lol, but I know stuff like that can be tricky to pair with varied outfits.

I live in a similar kind of town - how I like to do a corset is either wear a subtle black corset with a semi sheer button up shirt over it, so it just peaks out like a camisole (kind of ) or I have worn a corset over a thin button up I have worn it kind of in lieu of a tank top -Imagine however you might wear a tank top and I’ve also worn a bolero shrug sweater with it or a little jacket over it so that you can see it but it’s not looking to lingerie like!
