Thanks for this! I was fortunate to find a console table sized (+) closed cabinet at the ReStore a couple years ago, complete with some adjustable shelves, bypass sliding cabinet doors, and a custom plate glass top. We have a small house, but this thing really earns its keep! First, I had it behind a couch creating, in effect, a pony wall, near the front door, and it held a HUGE number of canned and packaged good, as a pantry. Supporting two swing arm table lamps, it earned its space big time! Then, I wanted to open up the sight line across the room towards the front door, so I moved the couch to an actual pony wall, emptied the cabinet portions and slid the unit behind the couch, taking up very little floor space, and acting as a good spot to rest drinks etc. Recently, I needed to make the most of a wall in my small studio, and brought the now beloved piece into that room, where it is so friendly and handy! I will keep some still life accessories in it, and smaller (6” or so) art pads, spray fixatives and more. The top is holding art-in-progress and a small reading lamp. Along with a 1920’s rattan living room suite, this narrow cabinet will be a keeper wherever I go. Cheers!
@LaughCryDIY2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely LOVE this story. (And the phrase “1920s rattan set” had me on the floor! Would love to see that.) Multifunctional furniture getting new life is so good. I also love the idea of using it to create a pony wall and define spaces. That’s just genius. Kinda reminds me I saw a girl on TikTok move a large open-shelving Ikea Kallax behind her couch. She stapled backing board to the unit to close off one side of shelves, added wallpaper, and instantly created a small patterned “floating” wall behind her couch (if that makes sense). Genius.

Love it, 👏👏👏 sorry for the many moments of hellTM you had to go through. Re protecting the vinyl, would you consider a strategically placed thrifted wooden tray or something to put hot drinks on? If you could find two, you could use the second for keys, phone, etc. (I’m suggesting wood because…Baguette. In case she feels compelled to check that the gravity is still on.) As a coaster poster girl (I inherited a bunch of MCM wood furniture), I can tell you it’s nice to have surfaces where you don’t need coasters!😁 Also, props to your Prius! 🥳 They punch way above their weight in the “I can TOO fit that in my car” category.

It's too late to mention this but for the next time, the screw holes in the board (legs) need to face th@ underside of the piece, or the inside of the piece, not facing the outside. If they were facing away from the outside, you don't have to fill in the joining slots where you screwed the boards together, which is the norm, and makes it easy to take apart the piece later on if necessary. And you don't have to put on another board to cover them up.😊 I really love the wallpaper and the sofa table!!😊😊😊

@@LaughCryDIY I really like your spontaneity and enthusiasm! I myself did the same thing during my refinish of an antique table, many years ago. The table was in pieces when I got it. I carefully stripped a d refinished each piece separately, then put them all together. Looking at it, I thought it looked odd but I didn't know why, and the apron of the table, that the top was attached to, was not exactly flat against the top. It never occurred to me to look at another table for comparison. I proudly showed it to my husband and couldn't understand why he didn't tell me what a great job I did for my first time. He examined it carefully, never saying anything, until finally he looked at me and asked why I had used glue blocks to attach the apron and the top. "I've seen them on furniture before and there weren't any included with this table's parts, so I made some." He frowned. "Why didn't you just screw the to the apron where it was Ttached originally? And was there a reason you put the apron on upside-down? " I was baffled. He showed me the screw sites , that I was thinking were decorative, and that explained why I never saw screw holes on the apron, because the apron pieces were "inside-out " and upside-down. I kept it like it was and used it for years! I look forward to more of your videos! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁❤❤❤❤❤
