Another excellent video….I am curious as to why you cut out and then replaced foam in the fin and leash plug areas? Thanks and keep up the good work!
@AndrewWorkshop
@AndrewWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The foam I used for the main part of the board is 1.5lbs/ cubic foot. That can be a bit too weak for the larger fin and for the leash plugs (or adding extra glass). So the foam insert is 2lbs/ cubic foot, I should have mentioned that in the video.

Thanks for the answer Andrew! I have to say that I’ve been trying to locate some of the foam and Home Depot doesn’t carry it in Fla. and won’t order it….I’ll keep looking!
@AndrewWorkshop

@@douglasnoren3348 hmm might be because there isnt as much of a need in fla for insulation products lol. Try looking up places that sell foam for packaging, they have to cut large blocks down to different sizes.

Man that latex paint thing is AMAZING! Its strong, easier to apply, easier to work, and less noticeable since its white. Bloody brilliant! I've only made two boards (almost) so far but next one will definitely be latex paint method over polyurethane for foam joining. I am just fininshing (now sanding before gloss coat) on a 5'10" shortboard made from many many pieces of scrap foam. The polyurethane joins were numerous and veryvpainful. This would have made it oh so much simpler. Oh well...the more you know.

I guess, plus tools, that is I make one. I will search your vids for tools. I retired my old iSUP due to the drop stitch delaminating and bubbling out like it was having a baby. Unfortunately, no baby came 9 months later. It’s about a decade old or more, and they just don’t male them like this, or at least what I can find. It’s a surf style, narrow with lots of camber, like a banana. I loved riding it in white water and not interested in getting a modern one or ordering a specialized one up from the US. Making would be an addiction that might pay off in time, maybe, and I would be able to play around with different designs.

Great build video ! I'm getting ready to do a DIY SUP for my granddaughter for use this summer. Will be my first time doing so. Quick question about a segment of the sequential steps to your process. 1st: the yellow latex acrylic paint is applied direct to the dry styrofoam ? 2nd: you use the 'polyfilla' liquid sealer at this step to create a layer of separation (barrier?) btw the foam and the fiberglass cloth ? 3rd: it appears you lay down the cloth dry then apply resin. Do you not pre-wet the foam side w resin to better accept the cloth ? Or do you just apply resin on top of the cloth and work it in ? (assuming the dried Polyfilla sealer bonds well to resin soaked cloth w/o needing to be wetted first ?) Thanks for you reply !

I need advice installing a bow eye in a epoxy foam raven paddle board. I plan to pull it behind a electric recumbent bicycle , with a yeti cooler and some ice and drinks on top while towing, I plan to have two bicycle wheels at the back. I have 4 tie points up front but need a tie point at the very front and it has to be strong. My plan is to either drill a horizontal hole large enough to glue a piece of carbon fiber tube with like a 6" set back from the tip from side to side of the board or drill a long hole at the bow to glue in a stainless eye bolt. Can someone please give me some suggestions please. Thanks

Hi andrew, I've seen these videos a couple of years ago, but at that time for personal reasons and did not fully understand the construction he left aside. Now, I am involved in this topic, I have seen a lot of your explanation and it is spectacular. I've one important question left (perhaps more, hahahaha), how to make the rocker template?, I've seen that you have made the one at the top, but I don't know how to make the sides, also this leads to subsequent sanding of the curvature

Excellent video. I'm prepping to build a SUP. It'll be my first board build though I do have a little experience with laminating fiberglass/epoxy on plywood. I've found your videos to be both informative and entertaining. What did the weight of this board come out as? How does XPS compare weight wise?

What type of yellow paint did you use? Is it acrylic based and water based? 3.And please the composition and description of the polystyrene foam glue. Can you post a detailed photo of the packages with the composition and description. or links to these products. There are no such products in my country and it is necessary to select onalogs according to their composition and description. Thanks.

@Surfmus
@Surfmus 2 жыл бұрын
Once glassed it'll be capsuled and sturdy even though some people/surfers say the boards loses it's pop. IMO polyboards do lose it same as skateboard decks, but I have not felt a lose of pop in my epoxy boards. Now in the PU/Poly full mode though.

@AndrewWorkshop
@AndrewWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
@@seanrphill Thanks! It might work but i suspect it would take a few days to dry because XPS doesn't have a bead like structure so air doesn't travel between the sheets of foam. I'd test it on a sample and also keep the layers of paint thin to reduce drying time.

Hi, excellent video, im going to start my own DIY SUP this weekend, not so fancy, but to see how it goes. What did you use to seal the foam? Thanks in advance
@AndrewWorkshop
@AndrewWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
I used Polyfilla Big hole filler, best sealer I have used, if you can find it. It matches EPS perfectly and is light. If you can't find it you can use dry wall spackling but you might have to paint it afterwards to match the color. Good luck!
