@@itzhakazoulay1271 , i have not yet come across any system, in any room (other than a 12x12 square room) which does not benefit _significantly_ from a pair of good subs _properly_ positioned. your speakers claim 20hz. i do NOT believe that claim. not from a 6 1/2" driver which also is called upon to do midrange duty....nope, dont buy it. i bet if measured, their linear response would be about 50hz. i have B&W 803D2 with 3 7" bass only drivers each. they are rated at 17hz thats 21" of bass drivers. with proper positioning, i was quite happy with the bass they put out. still, my speakers thrilled when 2 REL S5 SHOs were added. i say, try it, i think youll be surprised. best wishes.

It will give a 100% guarantee for a serious neighbors issue. Resulting in wasted money on such stereo set as soon as the police arrives. Better find a house on the countryside first.

Mankind used to now exactly how, when I was 7 years old our entire school walked down the road to a local Chapel to practice singing for the Christmas concert, the Chapel, built in 1818 had an organ which had bass pipes that went from the ground floor to the roof. When the organist started up the bass produced went through me like I wasn't there and the whole building thronged... and the best part was it wasn't nowhere near ear splitting loud! As the decades have passed people have accepted less and less, if you think an old wind up gramophone has no bass just compare it to the sound coming from a TV these days, yet put a TV made in the 1960's in the same room and it will blow its modern counterpart out off the water. You see kids walking down the road these days with a phone going tssst tssst tssst and they are quite happy... though if I had to listen to the shit they were playing I think I'd need a tiny phone on mute before I was happy! I didn't get to the end of this video but the answer is a corner. Put your bass speaker in the corner of a room and the room itself will act as a gramophone horn and amplify the sound.

Those subs are beasts, along with SVS and JTR. But I just installed a Nakamichi 9.2.4 Shockwafe with two sub woofers. I literally feel the bass in my chest even with volume 30 out of 100. It's installed in a medium sized room. The bass is incredibly smooth. It doesn't go as low as the others, I believe it goes down to 30 hz, but the sound is incredible, especially for the price. it provides an immersive listening experience, especially with ATMOS movies.

You want that feeling that goes all through your body! Got to the drag races and stand next to a top Fuel car when they test fire it after tear down and rebuild. It's not music, but..... I worked in Auto Parts and Machine shops building engines for over 20 years. Thought the 80's I only miss on year at the track! One year I was walking through the pits as the crews were getting ready for first round eliminations and a father had brought his son to the races for the first time. His son, was deaf. His dad saw a crew putting their car up on the stand so they could fire up the engine, build some heat in the block as Nitromethane runs too cool, and they would run it through the gears to be sure everything works. He walked right next to the right side header, and I walked up next to them just as they fired that beast up. His sone eyes damn near popped out of his head. The pair began signing back and forth wildly when all of a sudden the boy pointed to his ears. I don't know what type of deafness he had, whether or not he was missing the hammer and stirrup bones in the inner that normally amplify sound and transmit that to the nerves that are the. Carried off the the Brian, but I swear this kid could hear that engine. I've never seen a smile that big! Unfortunately to listen to music or anything else at that sound pressure level with damage your hearing. Luckily I had ear plugs, but if you don't, be careful what you wish for! And if you can find a happy medium, enjoy!

I got my sub yesterday - SVS SB 1000 - and what a difference!!! It integrates well with my speakers and sounds amazing. SVS has speaker level inputs only as a legacy solution for stereo amps which do not have sub out. Only REL has implemented speaker level inputs as the preferred choice. For other brands and makes, using Line-in (low level) will sound better

Subs are only part of the equation if you want chest thumping power. Go also for larger diameter Mid Bass speakers. Around 10 inches plus will move and pressurize the room. In an apartment though, you'd be asking for plenty of noise complaints. Handle with care...😁

When in an appartment be sure to properly mechanically decouple your subs from the floor and building structure. You only need sound pressure in your listening room, not mechanically exite your neighbours dwellings. Best result by soft dampening rubber types. I replaced the standard feet of my stereo Sonus Faber Gravis subs for SVS SoundPath and my neighbours loved it. Additionally it improves the sound in your listening room as the hardwood flooring does not get exited any more and the cabinets resonate less. For my bedroom REL R-528 a adhesive rubber sheet is cut to size of the feet.

Depends on the sub. REL recommends coupling as opposed to decoupling. Check out the REL acoustics youtube channel on John Hunter's explanation. In my experience, having RELs coupled to the floor sound MUCH better than decoupled - I use two REL T9is.

Sony and Phillips are also really good budget options if you're looking for a fully kitted 5.2 dual sub home theater system. You'll feel any sub with a combined RMS output of 400 or more - depending on room size and placement ofc.

Since bass is omnidirectional I decided to forego large subwoofers and instead installed many Clark Synthesis Platinum transducers in the chairs that we have in the home theater room. This way when the Tyrannosaurus Rex in Jurassic Park walks the only thing shaking are the chairs and not the whole room!

Parts express do some pretty good looking sub kits - can't vouch for them though I believe the Dayton Audio drivers are highly regarded. If I was in US however, I would be putting the GR research kits at the top of the 'to explore' list, particularly servo controlled. Bass for buck, a kit might be an area well worth exploring.

Me personally I go for low Hz rather than thump in chest. I don't know much about pre made subs but if you go DIY route Dayton Audio RSS line of subs are really nice and fairly inexpensive. I believe Paul uses the same RSS line 12" sub in PS Audio's music room. The sub columns in his room

Remember that when connecting to a bass box it should sound like everything coming from the front speakers! It should not sound like there is a bass box to play for itself if you understand what I mean? A bass box should be adjusted to sound right with the front speakers! Remember that regular speakers have a passif crossover filter where the frequency is adjusted up and down to get correct and flat sound. Call it a passive equalizer. A regular bass box only divides at one frequency and does not have that fine tuning and does not always produce correct and flat sound. From 100hz to lower then passive filters give negative effect as phase shift. Many active bass filters have only 12 db filters but 24 db filters provide the best sound.

Just another tip if you want to feel the bass : get the appropriate CHAIR ! A friend of mine bought a "STRANDMON" from Ikea, not because it's beautiful, but because it sort of vibrates at low frequencies. And myself, I've tested the different chairs I have : I prefer my old relaxing couch, which also vibrates to the sound (probably due to the internal mechanical structure), over my other armchairs, which are more comfortable, but absorb all the sound... And this gives me a nice shaking bass, even with my Klipsch Heresy III's which only go down to 58 Hz ;)

Im building 2 big T-Line with 12" woofer for subwoofers then from 90hz up to 350hz i will have 4 fast 6.5" midbass drivers per channel in a sealed enclosure for the bass punch! then mid and tweeter .

In the realms of "feeling the bass," there's no replacement for displacement. The more air you can displace at low excursion, the lower the distortion and the higher the output at low frequencies. Only problem is, good low-distortion "feel the bass" subwoofers are refrigerator-sized. There's a few older high-displacement designs that took 15" Altec woofers down to 22Hz, and they would shake plaster off the ceiling if you had more than one.

Good for pretty much all music. They are very responsive. Sync perfectly with your speakers. So much so that it doesn't sound like you have A sub more of an extension to your speakers. Could not recommend REL enough. Have tons of features too :)

There are some awesome subs out there. If your budget is around 700$ buy TWO polk audio HTS 12's. I am amazed on how loud and low those go. Not sure if they can be beat for that price.

I can feel the base with just a pair of Pioneer SP-BS22-LRs on tall stands with the ports plugged and the tone control rolled back a bit. But then, the main room of my little apartment (mnrm, bdrm, bthrm) has a nasty resonance mode. Still, bass shy music is infinitely better than no music.

Velodyne was acquired by Audio Reference back in November and I have yet to see anything from them since then. Velodyne has been second tier for the last 15 years at any rate, no longer competitive in price or technology. We'll see. Gallo subs aren't top tier at all.

Definately need subs but start with a tower speaker with larger midbass drivers. Not saying 3 or 2 6.5" midbass drivers wont cut it but 8" drivers will hit lower. Have to have subs but first get your tower speakers that have decent Midbass

I’m not a big fan of multiple subwoofers (unless crossed over differently) for venues where people may be moving around. Of course there’s no perfect alignment in such situations, but it just seems unnecessary. I much more prefer one larger subwoofer cabinet with a driver capable of the sound level you desire. Two things to consider are attack and headroom. I’ve seen plenty of fine speakers which are weak and muddy due to poor installation and signal. Sub frequencies don’t suffer from beaming and have such long wavelengths, I’ve found better success with one unless you really NEED stereo for some reason and have massive bass traps.

Small subs with lots of power wont work....A system that is min. 20 inch surface area of speaker cone (2x 10 2x12) min 1000watts RMS, ported or bandpass box......Thats the starting line for actual sound clouds in the room. Going over that can damage your foundation though and knock things off your walls

Can't believe Paul did not mention the subwoofer crawl to find optimum placement .That's where you place the sub where you want to sit then play bass heavy tunes and then crawl around the room until you hear the bass the loudest then when you find that spot mark it and place the sub there.

Listening position is important, as well as subwoofer position. Weakest bass is in the center of the room, and it increases as the listener moves toward a wall.

Hey Paul, could you please clarify proper sub placement for music listening? In this video you're suggesting corners but I believe that you must be talking about HT. For music, I always see subs next to the main speakers. I suspect that this is for better integration with the timing of the speakers. Also, not sure if you know about Rythmik , they're a US company who sell servo subs directly to the public. Cheers!

The best way to find good sub placement in a room is the crawl method. first place the sub where you sit as close to ear height as possible (but it's not too critical) connect to your amp and power up. Play some good bass tracks and then get on your hands and knees and slowly crawl around your room in any or all the potential areas you can place your sub...you will find in some places it sounds too light and others it may boom too much, but then there are the sweet spots that just sound right. Sometime this can be in very strange places in your room and nowhere near your main speakers. But don't worry as bass is omi-directional. Good luck

A 15 inch sub like the REL here mounted in a 112 litre enclosure sounds awesome ... 800 watts and quick response .. excellent !! Don't buy 2 .. if you DO then stack them .... keep them in the same location . Splitting them apart is fine in a very large room or outdoors ... but placing them in the front corners of your listening room will give you a very much diminished bass response .... this is because the room becomes a pressure domain where the wavelengths of sound far exceed the dimensions of the room . So adding a separated sub will interfere with the source of wave excitation and you will get cancellations occurring.. try it if you want but I think you will agree that same location is far better .

I'd start with a beefy floorstanders corner loaded, then move the sofa around till it's strong, then play about with bass and e.q. controls till it slams hard. After all that if still not enough or not deep enough go for subs but often they are hard to dial in and integrate. So a floorstander with a powered subs built in might be a great solution like what Golden ear make. 2 REL subs cost a lot of money and it might be better spent elsewhere.

This is good advice. #1 TWO subs #2 place near corners of room or "subwoofer crawl". I would add to make sure the subs have an F3 of 32 Hz or lower. There are way too many subs that have an F3 (Low frequency response -3db) in the mid to upper 30s or low 40s. A full range speaker can hit those notes. I'd look at SVS, RSL, REL and HSU as good brands. Ha funny that they are all 3 letters. Older JL Audio and Velodyne's were also good. If you are on a really tight budget check out BIC America. If you want to stretch your dollar build something from Dayton or Rythmik.

25 years of audio set ups and for stereo I hate subs. For movies - absolutely. Lfe etc require it. Unless you're listening to an awful lot of organ music sub 40hz then all subs create are a mess. Floorstabders full range way to go. Nice and simple cohesive balanced sound.

What should I do if the subs in the corner upsets the perfect triangle setup for the front speakers will be 6 feet apart and listing point 12 feet from speakers if I put subs close the center then I can keep front speaker 12 feet apart making perfect 12x12x12 triangle should put subs be behind listing point? Try keeping your perfect triangle, but rotating it a few degrees within the room. You keep the speakers and subs in perfect alignment with the listener, but rotating that triangle in the room means reflections, standing waves, peaks and nulls, will no longer be symmetrical and combine.

Get a down firing subwoofer not a front firing and place them in the corner wall, you can feel it's kicking and shaking even at low volume.

Paul and Juan, I think we missed something here. I share Juan’s desire, but it isn’t solved with a subwoofer fully. I have a dual 15 inch Legacy Audio sub in my room. Just turning the sub up is imbalanced and annoying. The speakers must be capable of coupling to match that powerful sub. I think Juan might do well to look hard at a very dynamic speaker. Marrying a REL sub to a pair of Nautilus 805s might sound great, but will NOT slam. Conversely, a pair of Klipschhorns without a sub will definitely pound you. My sound room has had dozens of speakers run through it from Electrostatic, Ribbons, horns, vintage JBL, ADS, Boston, vanderstein, Bose 901, Snell, B&W, PSB gold, Definitive, Mirage, DQ, Monitor Audio, Polks, DCM Time Frame, M&K, JSE Infinite Slopes, etc. No two speakers sound alike or do everything well. I have resolved to own more than one pair. I have Martin Logan Odyssey for most listening, but for times when I want to rock out like a club, I don’t go to the Odyssey. There are several vintage speakers that do what Juan is looking for well and you don’t need to spend $1000 on a vintage JBL 100. For a few hundred bucks you can have that second pair of gut busting speakers. Norman Labs, KLH, Bozak, and Boston a400 are a few great ones, but do your research on AK or other blog sites. Note I did not mention Klipsch in my recommendation. I’ve tried lots of them from the RF7, to CF, Chorus, KLF, and more, but they all seem to be missing something between the horn and woofer integrating. They do sound great on a SET amp, but still not as satisfying as say the Norman model 9.

PS, I’ve heard that Tekton design might be a single speaker that does a good job with a wide variety of programming, but you need to buy them to hear them unless your buddy has a pair.

Bass is easy, it's the treble and mid-range that get difficult to get right at given volume.

A great economical sub that really sounds great and make some real thump is the BIC America PL 200, I would recommend 2 if you really want to bump, there about $250/300 a piece that's cheap for a decent 12" subwoofer. Yes SVS,REL ECT make awsome subs but they are super pricey...so if you wanna spend are of $2000 for a couple of there smallest entry level sub (which is far from "entry level" up to somewhere around $5000 for a pair of there big one (which is insane prob overkill unless it's a big room even still) go for it. The PL200 rates at the top quite often in sub $500 class in online reviews. It has a super low FS of 18 htz so it hits low on a budget I'm a bass head having a 15" on 1500 wrms in my vehical and one pl200 seems very good to me but I'd love 2 for more bass but SQ is always improved with 2 or more of any sub. But just shop around read reviews and check out KZbin you will find the sub you want.

Paul, you don’t ever mention speaker company names that give excellent quality sound for the best buck like HSU or DIY oriented companies like GR Research for the high end or Parts Express for the rest of us. Not everyone here on your channel can buy high end gear but a still very interested in audio technology and music and I don’t think it would hurt your business one bit by being more widely represented of the audiophile community.

Oh of course the ultimate answer is invest in Servodrive , by line 7 ..., if they are in business this month ,, now there was a speaker and an interesting concept . That aside , I would say EVs evid sub, I think its called the 12.1 from memory, takes a lot of beating , and you only need one.

Time Alignment is what is required to get bass that is articulate that you can feel. Simply adding a sub will not achieve this.

I'm running dual SVS SB-3000's in a 13' x 14' room. That's 2 13" drivers powered by 1,600 watts RMS. It literally rattles items at the opposite end of the house! 👍👍

To feel the bass. Buy a Rotel RB 1080. Buy pretty much any Cerwin Vega with a 15" woofer.. Enjoy ur bass. Sounds like shit, but the bass will be delivered.

I do not think it sounds like shit but hey to each their own. You are correct the bass will be delivered and it will be much more musical and accurate with plenty of slam then most average subwoofers.
