Instead of the metal bracket, just use the pieces you cut off the sides of the seat at the beginning. One to make elevation blocks on either side of the back, and the and the other, sanded dowd in the center for clearance, to span those blocks. Fasten this bracket high enough on the back so that the bottom edges all line up when stored.

@@richturck259 that is a good idea and would cut back on the waist. Thank you.

I was thinking about wide hook and loop straps instead of the brackets. But I do like the kayak handle. Will be incorporating that into my builds. Thanks!

I had gone to the lumber yard and bought 10ft boards that measured over 12- 14 inches wide. Rough Cut. very green wood. The chairs came out super perfect. ( so perfect somebody stole them while i was off playing war with the army )

I’ll be making one in a couple weeks that will be around 20 inches wide, so a little bigger, but still portable.

Was looking for camp fire chair ideals and these are spot on….plastic ones keep getting replaced because they become brittle…the fold up chairs the fabric fails after a year or 2 stored out at site…these will work perfect and be cleaned up quickly with the coating when pulled from storage there…the fabric chairs are horrible about spider eggs…these once separated a good wipe off and they should be ready to use. Thank you!!!

This is a basic design and it was a Christmas gift. I’ll be doing another one in the future that will be wider and this exactly what I was thinking, good idea, because I’ll get heavy fast.

Lovely chairs but no historical history at all for anything vikings. They just not viking age

The chairs have many names, like bog chair, plank chair, stargazer chair, camp chair, and Viking chair. Some of the information I found about the chair is that it is designed and categorized as “nomadic furniture”. It looks as if it is of African design, and according to one source didn’t come to Europe until the 19th century, growing in popularity in the early 20th century. As to where, and how it became associated with Vikings, I don’t know. But you’re right I can’t find anything to historically link them together.
