Mark - our garden has been transformed since you built us this wonderful ecosystem and wildlife pond. Im running out of bird seed because the amount of birds that this pond has attracted has increased threefold. Since you have finished this pond it has started to develop and evolve into a living system with damselflies, pond beetles and birds bathing. Thank you so much. Lisa and I will be eternally grateful to you for what you have created for us. The garden is being finished tomorrow with turf going down. Its been a project and a half but so well worth it.

Hi Your pond is real nice. im building a pond and revamping my back garden. Hoping to get it to this standard. Where did you purchase the wall. Thats class. I need a wall like this to deaden the sound from a road that's at the rear of my property. Is it sound proof 'to a degree'. Hoping you can help. cheers

@@ThePondAdvisor I do have a question! I love how you made the water flow through the hollow log. I've seen other ponds use logs and branches for a really natural look. (Have you seen the youtube video from Bama Bass? -- Aquascape contractors come and build a HUGE bass pond. Very fun!) But what happens as the wood ages? Does it release tannins and discolor the water? Or muck it up in any way? If using wood, do you foam it in tight? Or leave it loose for easy removal, assuming that it will eventually need to be replaced? Thanks!
@ThePondAdvisor
@ThePondAdvisor 5 жыл бұрын
You can easily remove most things out of foam, it’s not like cement, the wood does not rot as fast as out of the water, but having said that it does still break down above the water. Tannins do leach out of some types of wood, you need to know what wood it is also, yes I have seen and was talking to a number of the contractors when they were on site. It’s (a natural element) fantastic for insects!

It is looking absolutely fabulous. Totally matured. Lillies have flowered as well as many of the other plants. Toads have come in. Field mice living in the rocks. Birds bathing and our first woodpecker! Alpines planted and just a few goldfish (sorry Mark) couldn't resist. One of the best investments my wife and I have ever made. Ill be putting some images and a flyover with the drone in the next few weeks.

@ThePondAdvisor

I use black silicone (aquascape) or gold seal as the adhesive, it must be fish or aquatic safe. I use a multi tool to cut the lip of the waterfall box as I prefer to build my own spillway stone, I don’t always. Sometimes I set the waterfall filter back from the stones and then I leave the lip on!

Great video - im planning to give this a go myself although i have a Koi mega media filter already so im not sure how to adapt it without spending a fortune on a separate spillway and having to build up the waterfall bed really high. I'll give it a go but if anyone has any tips they'd be much appreciated!

Hi Mark, great as always, waiting to see you incorporated into one of the garden programmes on TV ;o) just wondered here, am I seeing right..... in the video at the end it looks as if you have put pebbles in the top of the waterfall box/filter and to all intents and purposes the top is not covered but exposed but covered with pebbles - Have I seen right in this case?
@ThePondAdvisor

yes you are totally right, most of the time if the top of the waterfall boxes is not seen then we level it open but it its part of the landscape you can see when walking around we landscape it much better, its simply cosmetic

Hi fantastic video i am building a waterfall it will be roughly 5 feet high 6 feet wide on the water down run then the pond at the bottom will be any size i was told a pump 7000 litres an hour will work would that be big enough i do like a lot of water coming down.
@ThePondAdvisor
@ThePondAdvisor 4 жыл бұрын
4000 litres per hour will give you 1cm of water over 30cm so for a 6’ or 1.8m wide waterfall/stream that’s not much water?

I love your work and have studied several of your videos. I am preparing to get busy with renovating my 14'X 8'X4' pond with 8' stream. I have questions about three areas: waterfall supports, plumbing, and pond skins/liners. My biggest question is about the supports for building up the waterfall as the ground is currently flat and people will be able to pass behind it. I want good optics from all angles but also want it to be sturdy and safe. My other conundrum is about the plumbing. I want to have 2-3 different water falls. 1 main (3'-4') and two smaller accent water events. Do I need to add an additional pump for the 3rd water fall event or should I use 2 "T's" ? My pump is the Dhp4200 Debris Handling Pump in 4235Gph. I also purchased a skimmer for this renovation. Do I use 50 mil PVC pipe or should I use the kink free pipe from AquaScape? Finally, where is the best place to get the gate controls/valves and T's that you use -- hardware store or pond supply? Lastly, the pond liner. I will keep the 45 mil liner that I already have in the pond. My question is which thickness should I use for the waterfall? Which thickness should I use for the bib in the rock display and water flow design? You said to ask questions. I hope I haven't gone over board. Please help. Thanks in advance!!!
@ThePondAdvisor
@ThePondAdvisor 5 жыл бұрын
not at all, yes use the same liner 45mil (1mm EPDM in the UK), yes use the 2' pvc aquascape pipe, i would use two Ts yes three values, were is the best place to buy the gate values from the same supplier as the PVC pipe, might be more expensive but support them, plus you know its all the right size. I do not know anything about your pump! build a retaining wall so you don't have to grade the soil down behind the waterfall. Hope that helps

Hello Mark, Yes, an amateur mistake. 75% through the project and the pond is rapidly loosing water. The waterfall liner has a leak! Thinking it’s near the end of the fall, can I remove the rocks up to half way and tuck a new piece of liner underneath with say a 40cm overlap? If I starting at a high point and , then remove the waste with the suspected leak? Thinking that the downward flow will be sufficient not to back up and under the new section.

Look at purchasing a 11’ by 9’ aquascape pond kit, the other materials cost change from area to area, some places you can get the aggregate for 20 a ton other areas 200-300 per ton.
