Good info, however we live in the South .... no basements and much hotter temps... I'm still trying to determine whether or not I want to rip out a bathroom to create a wine room. Sure I can simply buy another wine Refrigerator (which is cheaper)... but what fun is that?

One issue not addressed here is adequate humidity, as if the opposite is always the problem. I have the impression that fifty percent is adequate humidity, and I humified my Wyoming basement to this level. Now that I moved to western Oregon, I thought that it would no longer be a problem, but I am still finding basement relative humidity of 30 percent in the winter. I think I will have to humidify my basement, even though winter weather here is very wet.

Hi Thomas, You sound like a more avid wine lover; I appreciate your insights. Actually, one of my other videos addresses humidity, location, lighting, vibrations and a whole host of other conditions that have both a positive and negative impact on wine. What’s if you live in a townhome and rent, but have about 500 to 800 bottles?

LOL!!! I want to be your friend!! Several questions come to mind: How big is your townhouse? and What re you doing with them now? I'd designate a room (the smallest bedroom in the townhouse) as your wine room/cellar. Get a small WhisperKOOL wine cooling system and and install it. Either in the window or vent it with a flexible vent tube (WhisperKOOL has them) through the window (this is less obvious from outside). OR get a "window AC unit". There may be Homeowner regulations against "window AC units" so get an In-Room AC unit and vent it outside through the window (there are attachments for this). Keep in mind, a standard AC unit will not get the temperature is low as it needs to be for long-term storage but it will establish a consistent temperature. There are also places, similar to a mini warehouse, design specifically for individuals that would like to store their wine properly but don't have room in their homes. Store the wines that you're aging in a long term storage facility.

Just saw your question. If you're holding them you have several options, 1. convert one of the rooms in the townhouse into wine storage with a separate cooling and humidity control (WhisperCool), 2. get a longterm storage facility that is climate controlled. you may need to add the cooling and humidity control in the facility or 3. rent storage that is specially designed for wine. You want your long term wine to be at about 56 to 20 degrees with about 60% humidity. The Long term for wine has some added benefits. You'll get to know other wine people. Cheers!! Pierre
