www.bananamana.... How to build a wooden window screen -- DIY to keep insects especially mosquitoes out of the house. Christian Lee shows how to make a screen frame for your window, specifically if you live in Singapore or South East Asia where they don't put screens on their windows, even though there are a ton of mosquitoes and dengue is a huge problem. Best way to keep mosquitoes away from your baby. Make a wooden window screen.
Apologies for not mentioning more about the weather stripping that was used for the outside of the wooden frame. It was bought at Daiso for $2 SGD, and is made of sponge material. I cut the wood shorter by about 1cm to make room for this. The result is a snug fitting screen window that can easily be taken in and out.
This video was pocket produced on the iphone 4. "Shoot, Edit, Share, it's that Easy!"

Thank you very much. I live in a condo that was built in the 80s. I have the wooden screen frame with rusted screen. Just have to buy the screen and staple it on and add the weather stripping. Someone said it's a good idea to add two small handles which I would try, makes it so much easier if removing many times. Have a good day.

Wonderfully simple project, happy I saw it before following my own plans, which were inordinately complicated... with a spline and groove and whatnot - the key to hiding the staples was crucial here - on the outside edge! Brilliant. Thanks.

I noticed that, too. I would attach a couple of "pulls" (drawer handles) top & bottom or on each side so you have a way to pull the screen when you need to.

Good concept! But may I add something? Might be handy to install two little handles on each screen. Nothing fancy, just something to have a grip on with your fingers. That way they are easier to remove when needed (storm for example). ;)

This is a great video. I have an older home in the states - built in 1927. It has little square jalousie windows with triple panes and NO screens. I'd love to be able to open the windows without having to worry about flying critters. You made it simple, and easy. Thanks so much!

Ha I'm from Boston but my wife is from Singapore. I'll be there in two weeks, but yes always wondered why no screens when you are always hearing about dengue fever. Not to mention the bees are as big as birds. Thanks for the tip I'm looking to make my own screens for my cellar windows

very good tutorial. i tried so hard to find similar DIY frame. but the problem with this design is that the windows has to stay open at all time, you can't open the screen and close the window. another problem with this design is that if the mesh would accidentally torn, you will need to restaple everything back again. alluminium frames here in malaysia are sold but too expensively at ACE hardware. :(

@ezyroller Great question. I have the window cracked open just enough to let in the breeze and keep the rain out. Also the screen actually acts as protection from too much rain coming in. The screen pops out if I need to shut the window for going on holidays, but I've been keeping the window open without a problem.

this works, but anytime you use staples instead of a gasket you unevenly distribute pressure which can eventually produce wrinkles in the screen fabric
