I would definitely add a day for stretching, plyometrics, speed work, and conditioning if you really want to go all the way with the Athletic Bodybuilding style

6:10 you can do Pull-ups as the alternative because it is the same movement pattern as the overhand lay pull-down of shoulder adduction and as you say always do more compound lifts and less isolation movements

I do mma and I’ve tried a lot of ways to put on muscle without hindering my performance. And I eventually made a program for myself wear I do compound movements (Standing) like barbell shoulder press, barbell bent over rows, pull-ups and I do incline Db press and then legs is like squat and deadlift but I do them in rep ranges to have some hypertrophy for muscle growth along with the compound movements to build strength and stability. But I think Athletic Body building is a more thought out way of what I’ve been doing and I might try it.

Totally agree with this philosophy. If you weightlift with the intent to build muscle and do movements that improve your mobility and don't neglect your cardio, you're able to have the best of all worlds basically. You look good and have athletic capabilities.

@@iversonpreaches You have to decide what you want to prioritise as your training will be slightly different. If you care more about how you look, train with the intent to build muscle (IE weight train on more days, higher reps and sets etc). Whereas if you care about your performance in football, you should weight train less and train your football technique more. Weight training is important in any sport up to a point. Imo, once you have a basic level of strength, your technique in the sport matters much more than increasing your squat by 5kg for example. But if you care more about muscle, than increasing your squat volume is more important. Let me know if that makes sense.

If I am doing a sport where it's almost year round but still want to train should I do less days a week and just do 1 cycle of PPL or do the full 6 days and push through the soreness? Also love the videos keep up the great work!

Most people can build muscle with just 3 workouts a week, so if you are too busy or tired, then it's perfectly fine.

Ive recently thought of a training method where for every set of an exercise I do I first pick a weight with which I reach failure between 3 to 4 reps (strength rep range) and then immediately drop the weights to a lighter level where I can crank out 7 to 8 more reps till failure. I was wondering by dropsetting this way whether I get best of both worlds of hypertrophy and strength

dropsets are just a way to get more reps in, just for some additional stimulus. But you’re not going to get that hybrid of strength and hypertrophy. Sure you’ll gain muscle from dropsets and get stronger, but if you want to bias one over the other you need to train one over the other. That’s why strength training and hypertrophy are different. but you will gain some strength from drop-sets but not in the long term because you’re not progressively overloading, or achieving enough mechanical tension.

Hey Mario, I'm just starting out going to the gym and wondering what workout plan to use first. I'm planning on cutting first and I have a local gym I can use. I see all these websites that have "Ultimate workout guides" but they don't seem that specific in terms of what to do or how to do it. Leon Edwards workout consists of 2 supersets Superset 1: DB bench press+ Incline DB row 3-4 sets of 20 reps Superset 2: Deadlift+Medicine ball slams 3-4 sets of 20 reps.

Lat Pulldown is a compound movement btw. It uses two joints, the shoulders and the elbows.

It would be considered isolation typically you are not using your core. Because almost every back exercise involves the biceps aside from a couple exceptions

Look at the oblique slings functional exercises. I lot of combat athletes do them. Phil Daru, one of the best MMA conditioning coaches, loves oblique sling work.

If I train in hypertrophy rep range, will my strength decrease rather than strength rep range? And if I train leg reps for strength, would I have to up the weight to make up for less reps?
