To be fair, my first desk project was really tough on me, but they get easier with each build! Without my degree, there wouldn’t be a channel! I started my website in grad school. So, if anything, I’m thankful for it for many reasons. 😊

Hey Sam. As always, amazing craftsmanship! I'm wondering if you could share your process (if you have one) for picking out wood at the store. I've found a lot of wood is warped and quickly become frustrated bc I can't find good pieces to start my project. I hope I'm not alone in this struggle. I haven't seen anyone talk about this, so if you feel like sharing I would love it!

Idk if this was answered but you can get the best ones that you can. If they are warped, you can joint them. If you have a table saw, you can try out this jig. Here kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKO8m5ZpfJapndE If they aren't too bad and are just a little warped, some clamping force will do the trick. I did this when I made shutters. Clamped them together and used cauls (small runners to help keep them aligned flat), then pocket screwed them.

While I will say that the room had a certain charm in it's "before"-state, it looks much better now. Out of curiosity, did you consider making the panels go all the way to the wall, or is that just my desire to be able to put clutter everywhere without it falling down. Thanks for sharing, Sam!

Was it more cost effective to tmake the table top out of three pieces of wood glued together or would a solid piece of wood be better? And did you plane the wood before attaching them to one another so that the top would be flat?

hey, sorry if it sounds dumb, but ive seen in a lot of desk projects that people when building the top of the desk cut boards to then glue them together, is there like a structural reason for that? something to do with the integrity of the top of the desk? im planning on building one but ive never worked with wood before. also, are there any communities where i can interact with other woodworkers? like a fb group or something similar (im sorry for any grammar errors or misspellings, english is not my first language)
