If you are a women or planning with a women in mind women's sanitary products would be a good addition
@taylorroberts43643 жыл бұрын
@Tori ABSOLUTELY! I appreciate her advice but I was waiting for her to mention that! If a woman no longer gets a period and has sanitary products available, pack a few! I learned a long time ago as a military spouse EVERYONE should have a emergency backpack to go... Some woman can be extremely selfish!!! We have to support each other at ALL times. The menstrual cycle does not discriminate and has no date, time or location, especially when the body is under stress. Stay strong😉

I always bring the sanitary pads in my bag. Came across an accident once and I gave it the guy to absorb the blood. He was hesitant but I told him this is your only hygienic choice so he took it.

A major safe place for you to be during a hurricane or big dangerous storm is in an underground shelter with a very strong lockable door. If inside the house, go to a basement corner or in the bathroom. Take a whistle and axe or hatchet with you to get rescuers or to dig out. A family member, Larry, got up with the hurricane overhead and opened the sliding glass door and stood there watching things until the suction (from the hurricane ?) pulled him out of there and he died in the rain trapped in debris way outside of his house. Hurricanes, tornadoes, other strong storms are no joke. Lots of people recommend the family hunker down in an empty bathtub. Tightly locked doors are very important wherever to avoid the poor fate of Larry. Some people think to stay inside the car is OK but then they have not seen the photographs of simi-trailer trucks hundreds of feet off of the ground blown up there by the storm. PS... Do not open the strong locked door in your underground shelter, even if someone is pleading to get in, because the whole contents of the shelter can be drawn out and thrown around.

Important documents are often overlooked. Thanks for mentioning them. How about a spork or flatware to eat out of those cans?

Yeah in mine and my husband's I put in a large ziploc bag a small camp size pot, small matches, small bowl, cup, and hard plastic ware. Sometimes people get separated unfortunately so that's why I put it in both.

To everyone commenting with prepping stuff, don't scare everyone off with $1k bugout bag for the zombie apocalypse. This is just for a power outage or earthquake or something. I agree this is more of a basic car/get home bag and could be improved, but it's a good starting point. And most common emergencies don't need most the stuff allot of people here named.

If I made my emergency kit a box and put a gas stove and a pot in there for hot water, could I put Ramen in there? It's one of the only non perishable foods I'll eat as an autistic person with sensory issues.

First of all you HAVE to KNOW if you are staying home or leaving. THAT kit in this video is only good as an auto bag. In case you get lost, run out of gas or weather or whatever prevents you from getting home. That's all that is good for. For a REAL emergency, plan first! Are you in a Country area or City? If you're in a city, and say our grid goes down, YOU will want to bug out! Especially if your in a nicer area. YOU will be a target. You need a solar powered combination radio and power supply, LED lights,etc. Food for 30 days minimum, {think freeze dried meat eggs etc.} A water purification & filter system, tarps, tents, sleeping sacks, paracord, small fishing kit, self defense\hunting gear and a good folding saw and full tang knife. Also fire starters, rocket stove, and most importantly, figure out where your going. State Park far away, or Country property you own. Bring seeds {non GMO} and learn Bushcraft skills. You can find REAL prepping videos right on UTUBE! Be prepared to stay gone for a long time. If you DON'T have to... Great! But if you do & your NOT prepared?? Really bad!

Obviously some good things in that kit. I should add something _(even for those who are not gunowners as it is still relevant)._ Molle compatible bags _(and it need not be the entire bag covered in that molle attachment)_ make both first aid and responsble gun-ownership possible because weight limits can be adusted. A person does not want to simply throw a firearm into a bag _(because that storage can be risky)_ but there are responsible ammo boxes (or close enough) that have compartments and security features. The point with weight limits and firearms is that the owner can change their container such as to a bigger one meant for firearms as something like the TSA approved boxes but you can also put your other belongings in that _(as long as they can go on a plane)._ It is not that you plan to go on a plane but rather that you anticipate travel method differences that fluctuate with the fortune of your prepping scenario. Clearly, the prepping scenario is not a known quantity because otherwise such a bag would probably not even be a bag but even if it were, it would be a much less generic and more specific scenario plan and bag. So you do not know _"are the roads down?"_ or _"are the docks blocked?"_ when packing the bag a long time in advance. For example, soil/earth moving machinery would be a plan more than in-depth first-aid where some scenarios pertain because it can be a better form of first-aid. That would thereby be a known-quantity scenario. What I will say though (as a negative criticism) of the video is that it really should have included a prepper-altoids tin (or tantamount) containing whatever generic or customised things a person might have but also a multitool (not in the altoids-tin) capable of having a sharp (almost never used) knife in case you need that for first-aid. A bit grim (yet needed) to mention a super sharp knife for first-aid but it is a prep people consider. I do think this is an oversight from the video because it is so commonplace for prep-bag guides to advise a multitool and altoids-tin (or equivalent) that it is harder to find a video not recommending those than to find a video that does recommend them. I have looked back and almost wonder if I made an error such as an assumption that the multitool is inside the first-aid pouch. I don't think so.

Lord...how about a change of clothes, can opener, plastic utensils & plastic Gladware. So much stuff is left off of this. I have a "getaway" bag, but it's strictly for getting out of my house & over to safety. If you're really serious about staying put during a disaster, you'll need a cooler with ice paks for 24 hour cooling, a gallon of water, flashlight, and personal hygiene products. Well, Am. Red Cross, I suggest you go back to the video and rethink how long this back pack would last in an earthquake, tornado, flood, or fire.
