Another great idea! Your DIY stuff works well. I think you could put a cap on the outlet and drill a smaller hole to control rate or keep air out of the heater housing. Such a versatile idea! Again made possible because you gave people the knowledge and the courage to do their own thing! Joey when you do this sort of thing, DIY stuff, it stimulates our minds, it exercises our minds and gets our own brains working. Who knows what we will find rattling around in our heads. I like everything you build! I may not always use everything I learn from you, but it gets my creative side working again!!!?

I think it would be cool if you did a video on pumps just pumps. maybe go into detail about brands pros cons stuff like that. but also go into applications from sizing for tanks and filler styles. you could also add in weather you should be using them to push or pull water. if its ok to push through something but not something else. maybe flow rates through types of tubing, what happens if you over size or undersize pros cons. just a one stop shop for everything to do with pumps and anything to do with pumping.

Would the fitting sizes depend on what size the canister filter tubing is? The canister I have is 3/4", so would I get a 1" to 3/4" reducer? Also, could the pipe be a little bigger, say 1 1/2" or is that too big? Thanks. Great videos by the way.

Love the videos. I have a question I've got everything ready to glue but the the heater clip that stops it from touching the sides won't fit inside the pipe. I'm using 1" thin wall per the video with a 200w heater & a 3/4 uniseal. Will it be ok without it?
@christelledussault8 жыл бұрын
I am having that exact same issue. I'm concerned that there isn't enough room in my 1" pipe. The heater I purchased is pretty snug in there.....

I’m not sure if you still look st comments from old videos, but I had a couple of questions. You mentioned flow rate, if it’s too fast it won’t heat the water properly? I know heaters now turn off when they reach the set temp, would they never reach the set temp in an inline thermometer so stay on all the time? Thanks and great video!!

as water cycles it will heat up, just like any other heater. you put a heater in a tank it will have to cycle around in order to heat everything.

Great vid about inline heater thanks! How about building a inline gravel vacum thingy that can return the water to the tank whilst removing debree and plant clippings during pruning and tank maitenance. Only option so far is to let waterhose suck up javamoss clippings and spit it out while draining the tank. However you can only remove so much water before you need to fill it up again. Usually this happens way before you are done vacuming the planted tank...

I like to build the inline heater, the only problem is that i can't find a uni-seal locally. And $19.62 shipping for a $1,37 item is way to much. So is there a alternative for a uni-seal or does someone know what the international name for it is? I hope someone could help me figure out a solution! Thanks
@stefanfr9928 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I've solved the problem with a pvc socket and applied silicone to hold the heater in place. I didn't cement the socket because it has a tight fit and doesn't leak which leaves me to be able to replace the heater when needed. The only extra cost is a new heater and probably also a new socket

Hey Joey, is there a way to make a 12v heater? I am building an aquaponics system that, for the most part, is powered by a 12v computer power supply so as to keep power consumption to a minimum. Why is this needed ? Cant you just submerge the heater into the sump ? is there limitations to this like max flow rate or tank size. using a sump with a pump doing 450gph can this still be inline or is this for slower applications .Thats why im not sure the purpose of being inline when it can just submerge into the sump and heat all the water

some of use don't have sumps. like myself I have a canister filter and I can't put the heater in it and I don't like the look of a heater in my tank in my tank. bit of a eye sore. so an in-line heater is are best bet too keep it nice and pretty and clutter fee in the tank.

Great idea but the scary part is what happens if the pump fails and the heater remains on the on position and melts the PVC and potentionaly starting a fire?
@thekingofdiy10 жыл бұрын
MoneyMarcMes That's not even a possible scenario. ALL aquarium heaters are equipped with a thermostat... it's what tells them when to turn on and off. If the pump shuts off... water will only heat to the temp you set it to, then shut off. It wont turn on and begin heating again until the flow starts and cool water begins to pass by the heater, triggering the thermostat and turning the heater back on.
@cosmonaut3798 жыл бұрын
MoneyMarcMes they turn off and even if that fails they're made to burn out completely at a certain point in case the sensor gets messed up. Sort of like a light filament getting too hot and burning out there's a thinner part of the wire rhat acts as a fuse of sorta.
@cosmonaut3798 жыл бұрын
MoneyMarcMes and PVC is tough stuff actually that's why it's used so much.
