Another fantastic video! I have been looking into running my hydroponics through wind power, but had no clue how to go about setting it up. Thanks for sharing all your wisdom and experience with us Hoocho!

Exactly what I'm doing for my first small DIY home system as I've got some older solar panels/solar controller off my campervan and a number of leisure batteries, just designing it around the NFT system with 6.5cm square plastic down pipes.

great video mate. I thought of this idea and knew it should work but have been looking for a video to prove if someone else has already done it. Proud to find the most basic and easy to follow video was from a fellow Queenslander ; ) now im ready to start ordering some parts to get started

Just fyi, when you get low sunlight, like when it's cloudy or rainy, the plants have enough sunlight to grow but the panel will struggle. It's not a perpetual system unless your battery bank is big enough to withstand multiple days with little to no charge. I'm in the US in the midwest. On cloudy days, the solar drops to a trickle. So make sure you do the calculations.

Thank you, about to swap my older house batteries out for lithium and the older batteries are going down to the swim pond to push the water up to the aquaponics beds... yabbies veggies ( hopefully Murray cod too, when I can get fingerlings and I’m right on the edge of where they will survive ( but pond is cold in shade... should be right 😝). Brilliant videos ( watched your cane toad tadpole trap one the other day ) you explain things really well ( thanks for the tip about the voltage protection on the load terminals that’s fantastic )

Can you comment more on how you wired the pump into the controller? I need an adaptor like yours
@tegannottelling3 жыл бұрын
You can get them at auto electrical suppliers. Not sure but think it’s called a jack or jax’s plug. Really handy when you’re disconnecting and reconnecting stuff a lot. Really simple to wire in too

What's the point of going off grid if you have to eventually go buy the seeds and stuff when you run out? Or do you teach every aspect of it?

Will this work with any pond pump or does it have to be a 12v Dc pump? Thanks

We're watching this 0ff grid...As a natter of fact we do EVERYTHING off grid...We also can get over 8m of rain a year! Watchin from the Daintree where the biggest problem we have is too much water!

Can you bypass the nutrients or substitute it for something else ? In a survival scenario how would you substitute nutrients for this system ?

Is it possible to run your grow lights with the same type of system
@Hoocho4 жыл бұрын
Christopher Little you would need to do the calculations about the energy requirements of an inverter and lights. Then scale up the battery and solar. It’s definitely possible. Whether it’s actually cost effective is another thing.

@@Hoocho it's already running me over 450. (U.S.) a month In electricity as it is couldn't believe the delivery charge was more my actual usage. Lol!! So even if it's more to get started, it would probably be cheaper In the long run. Ty

Would it make sense to raise the water level (maybe by 1-3cm??) by capping the end of the pvc pipe and drilling a hole up from the bottom of the pipe to keep more water in the pipe in case of no sun? With the hole drilled off center, and if the end caps were threaded, you could adjust the water level by just turning the cap on the threads. ? ? ?
@Hoocho4 жыл бұрын
Jay Pfeilsticker The point of the system is to only have a film of water. People make ‘nutrient film technique’ systems wrong all the time by raising the water level. Realistically when the water is more than a film they are just making a recirculating DWC that uses pipes.

I had to laugh with facing north. When in South America several years ago I kept looking for sun in the south and never found it. Then my husband reminded me south hemispheres sun is in the north. Did that ever turn me around. Lol

how much this total system price
@Hoocho4 жыл бұрын
Al Rashed Compound Hard to say as I’ve built it over a long period of time. Raw materials probably $350Aud not including the off grid stuff. If you used recycled material you could probably half that number. The battery and solar system would probably set you back the same again. All up brand new you could do it for $600-$800 if you shopped around.

@@Hoocho Hmm not sure. But I think almost any microphone out there can be connected to an iPhone by using various cable adaptors etc. www.mediashi.com/articles/how-to-record-professional-audio-on-an-iphone-or-ipad-with-an-external-microphone

Do you see more value in hydroponic or aquaponic systems?
@Hoocho4 жыл бұрын
Jim Jimmeh I see more dollar value in hydroponic systems. And more environmental value in aquaponic systems. Both require input whether it’s fish food or nutrient. Hydroponics is less complex and easier to maintain. Aquaponics has way more variables but can be more rewarding. I don’t have a black and white answer to that question. But at the moment hydroponics fits my lifestyle better than aquaponics.
