@alex_wildlife I can only suppose the answer is logical to you, but I would appreciate it if you could explain something. Why don't you build the hut or house completely underground? Not just near the surface and poking out but at least a story or 2 down? There was a channel like yours where a group of men built what appeared to be a 2 level hunting lodge completely underground, but the only video they showed was a time lapse which ended before they finished and didn't show the finished product? What are the chances of you taking on such a challenge?

Have to admire the diligence and effort put in to build this shelter. Design choices are constrained by available materials and local environment. Out of the weather and warm by your own hand are two major accomplishments. I hope it is enjoyed for a long time

When your digging in an area and hit sand, usually around a foot down , you might as well, abandon the work site , and find another spot to build on. Sandy soil is a good indication that at one point in time, long ago, that area was underwater and about 9 X's out of 10 there is residual groundwater that goes up and down with the rise and fall of the water table and will flood your cabin again, and again! Especially during the spring after heavy snow melts and all of that water has no place to go because there is already underground water. ( Of course I'm not talking about water under desert sand, but that being said , there are ancient water wells dotted all over the Saharan desert and deserts throughout the middle east, etc. for the exact same reason; long long ago oceans, seas and lakes covered huge swaths of land, and at one time those desert areas were lush and fertile. Luckily now much of that water is held underground making places habitable, that would otherwise be inhabitable.) Anyway, I'm just offering a helpful tip. You did a great job, nice construction. 👏🏽

In addition, if one is building underground, it should be on he upper-lower or lower-middle part of a slope. This will prevent, by and large, flooding.
@duanekc

Also, the tarps should go *over* the building to direct rainwater away from the structure; what you have here is basically a funnel to fill an in-ground swimming pool.

For all the people in the comments pointing out that it's going to be to wet or will flood, it wasn't build for someone to use, it was built for the purpose of creating content for a youtube video. If he was building one for someone to use then he would find proper ground or location instead of using the first place he could find.

I am surprised to have been able to watch this video so soon because I am still catching up with your videos from three years ago and I think I may have fascination with building these dugouts or building things in general or else I am a darn stalker of your videos!🤔🤗

When you dug that pit and it flooded that fast, why would you ever try to finish building it there? Id have found a hugher elevation so that ground water, above and below, would deain thru gravity before getting to a higher elevated shelter.

All that work and next year full of mould.
@joycemyers8140
@joycemyers8140 12 күн бұрын
@allan.in.australia2415 the soil will stay pretty dry at a higher altitude that way gravity feeds the water down to lower areas. Sorry about the mold but it's going to happen every wet season
@R_Hezir
@R_Hezir 6 күн бұрын
It's near a marsh it's going to get wet regardless of where you go the entire area is high likely saturated in moisture. And when you build a fire inside it will keep the area dry. You want it moist in order to prevent the building from burning down.
@joycemyers8140
@joycemyers8140 6 күн бұрын
@@R_Hezir not if you maintain proper fire safety protection. All that mud makes a good sod/ cob coat for inside the shelter to help weather seal and fireproof the walls
@R_Hezir
@R_Hezir 6 күн бұрын
@joycemyers8140 exactly. It's moist it will keep the place intact. Or moving elsewhere to drier spots it'll be more combustible...
