Breathing is SO important, the first time I made it all the way around the arena was when I finally started to focus on my breathing- I am a big over-thinker, so focusing on my breath helped me relax my hips or something, I was maybe over-analysing the movement, and just breathing really helped! Love your channel! 🐎💘🐎

Thank you! Yes it’s so important. I used to not breathe and it effected myself and my horse greatly. Such an important thing to practice and master.

What do you think about a video on hand's, bridles, bits and the horse's neck (neck reining or not)?

I have so many ideas and topics that I’m working on currently, it’s hard to narrow it all down ha! I plan to do one on bits and bridles eventually. ❤️

Oh Jiminy you are the prettiest Appy ever! I am a beginner and as I am researching horse breeds, I stumbled on Appaloosa horses that "shuffle". Is that typical with Appaloosas?

7:21 at my barn all the pony’s are the easiest to get going and have very smooth canters (not very heard of I know) that’s what u gathered from my barn friends as I’m the tallest out of all of them and not able to ride pony’s 😂

Hi this really helped me I just have this anxiety of cantering I can pop over a jump in trot just fine without any fear but I just don't know where the fear of cantering came from

I think I’ve rode in a canter before. I’ve rode in a gallop before and that was an accident. Lol!🤩😊

I went to cantar for my first time the other day after riding for over a year, I went for it almost had it and tried again but my foot fell out of the stirrup and I fell forward on the horses neck and almost fell off. My trainer said it was good though 😂

When your in the canter do u need to keep the pressure with your outside leg because when ever I go into canter Bubbles never stays cantering for more then 4 strides?
@freespiritequestrian

It depends on the horse! Firstly, I recommend doing groundwork and focusing on canter, that will help. Some horses aren’t as forward as others. I would continue to give the horse forward energy and if they slow down use the lightest aids possible to keep them in the canter. Also, check your saddle fit and rule out any pain related problems if you haven’t already :).

Does the horse recognize a rider's weight and/or balance shifts as its cue to change gait? I know legs are recognized cues most horses understand, but do we know if a horse's thinking and paying attention to such subtle shifts also occurs? I've noticed some horses twitch ears back or they just seem to be paying attention to the rider as if they're waiting for directions.
@freespiritequestrian
@freespiritequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
Yes they absolutely can tell! Some horses are trained off the rider’s seat (which is ideal) and they definitely know what certain shifts mean etc. When learning the cantering most people are taught to use their leg and then will advance into using their seat shortly after.

Thanks for the useful instructions. I LOVE Jiminy. I have a 16 hand leopard Appaloosa with darker spots. He’s a good boy but sometimes we have trouble with canter transitions and he gets a little excited. I’m going to practice when the weather gets warmer. Have a great week. 🐴🐴

His name is Alexander. He thinks he is quite beautiful. We practiced canter transitions today and he was much calmer. Of course it was unusually warm which may have slowed him down a bit. 🐴

I will need the video in the future. Jiminy; the professor. I'm 42 years rusty so it's a great refresher. Even if I don't canter; it's ok. Looking at your student, you are a great teacher. Do you think a horse has a favorite gait?
@freespiritequestrian
@freespiritequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
He really is a professor hahaha. Canter is so fun and I think it’s beneficial for the horse to go in all gaits. IMO if a horse sticks to 1-2 gaits over a long period of time they become more stiff. As Endurance riders we learn to be fluid in all gaits so the horse can be balanced and not develop cramps etc. thank you for your compliment as well. I do think they enjoy certain gaits. Jiminey loves trotting but he’s also always up for a good gallop!

I’m comfortable in the canter on a school horse, but my new horse is green and sometimes doesn’t stop or slow when I ask him to so I’m terrified to canter because a horse bolted with me before
