Going to have a friend over after Christmas to help me move things and I’ll be able to start up part 2. Gotta modify my existing plumbing just a little bit but it’s going to be so much better. That whole set up is on wheels too so if I can get it right, I’ll never have to touch it again even when I move

I hate to say "coming soon" but about a month after i posted this video I started the process of an unexpected move and since then this has been on my to do list but theres a lot of higher priority things i have to do first. I have the sump and i get excited every time i look at it because i know its going to be such an improvement to things when i get it set up

This was a great video! Found you through Vibes aquatics live stream today. I’m curious, would there be a benefit to having more chambers for different kinds of media? Or is volume more important here? I had a sump in my 70gal reef tank in the day but I never gave it much thought until just now.

@@The_Koi_Pit awesome! Thanks for joining my channel :) so I’d say it’s a mixed bag. Overall volume is more important, but having chambers for different media is important too. So I’m setting this sump up again now that I’ve finally moved and I’m able to have a fresh water refugium in the third chamber from the end and have the bulk of my filter media in the chamber to its right. If i didn’t have that baffle separating those two, I would have the same volume but I would just have a big media chamber and wouldn’t be able to have a refugium.

@@FathomAquatics That sounds like a great idea! I enjoyed trying to set one up for my reef tank, but I could never get it to work properly for some reason. I had it to cultivate copepods for my dragonettes but I still had to supplement their food source since I couldn’t seem to grow enough of them in the refugium. Now you got me thinking about ways the concept of a refugium could be applied in pond keeping. Maybe not as a place to remove nitrates since a bog filter can do that, but as a place to cultivate a food source for a koi fry pond maybe. Idk, maybe that’s just overthinking it. Anyways! I’ve watched a few of your videos now and you’re making me want to get back into aquarium again!

the glass panels are 12 inch by 16 inch glass panels. I got them for about $6 each at my local home depot. I trimmed approximately 1/4th of an inch off the longside of all of the panels to get them to fit and the shorter baffles i trimmed down to about 8 inches to fit the needs of my pumps but you can really adjust the shorter panels however you need.
