How to build Eriette of the Charmed Apple / MtG Wilds of Eldraine spoiler week / Commander Deck Tech

It's Wilds of Eldraine spoiler week! This is a Magic: the Gathering commander deck tech for Eriette of the Charmed Apple. This EDH guide looks at the challenges with building a deck focused on Eriette's first ability and then looks at using curses, auras that enchant players, to maximise the life drain of her second ability!

Perfect timing for this video. I'd just been mulling over this commander and had come to a pretty similar conclusion (it's really about the 2nd ability). Some great card ideas here that I hadn't even thought of. Cheers!

Thanks for this comment! Sorry I hadn't replied. Yes, some commanders suggest something they can't always back up based on the cards available to us and that 2nd ability is the place to build around with Eriette. Glad it inspired.

I have watched a lot of Eriette commander videos at this point, trying to get an idea of how I want to build out my deck. You have such a unique take on her, I'm very excited to try It out! I especially appreciate this approach since I mainly play dual against my husband, occasionally 3 or 4 player, and this curse method makes much more sense for 1v1 instead of just buffing all his creatures to have him use it against me if he removes Eriette. :P

Hey! Glad you feel inspired. I played Curse of Misfortunes on my husband in a game yesterday and it felt very on brand for Eriette to be so evil! Let me know how it works out. I would suggest a few board wipes in there - may do an update video. @@mtgspecs hah, yeah totally, I was working on the deck yesterday and some of the curses had me practically cackling (pun intended) with how wicked they’d be to use! Totally with you on adding removals/wipes, that’s exactly what I was doing yesterday. ☺️ Just wish it didn’t mean nixing some of the curses though. 😉 I’ll def check out your duel content, there’s not that much content out there for it so I’m excited to check it out!

This is a bit more . . . . villainous than Ghen, isn't it! And you've got the flexibility to swap out some of the life gain sub theme if you wanted. I've been experimenting with Minion's Return, Unholy Indenture etc. effects to steal creatures - glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for these awesome comments.

My first thoughts are Neva is a good addition to the 99 as recursion. As the commander, it could be a different but really cool 'aristocrat enchantment' build. Eriette is the better commander in my eyes, even though she is currently sitting on my desk with other decks that need some changes. I have an additional list for Eriette I can add to the description of this video later after my 9 to 5 is done.

Amen. I have a couple of decks that enjoy goading but it gets super dicey when it's just you and (hopefully) second place. Vow of Duty is my favourite vow because of the vigilance. Way more incentive for that player to attack.

Why does celestine not trigger from eriettes lifegain?

Does cards like Angelic Accord works with Eriette? Because they both trigger at the beggining of the end step. And since you didn't gain life during the turn I think that cards like Angelic Accord wouldn't trigger.

You are correct, The 'end step' trigger looks back on what has happened in the turn but it will work with the other life gain cards. I think it's still a good sub theme - good spot!

I am new to magic and have also been making Eriette as my commander and saw this video. Currently, I am confused with the Rudolf ability. Does the paying of mana should be paid as it enters the stack with Eriette or when it is about to be resolved?

👋 Hey! There was a quick note that flashed up in the video to say that Rodolf's and Eriette's abilities don't work together because both look back at what happened before the 'end of turn' step. Rodolf's ability is part of a sub theme for gaining life as there is so much life gain in the deck. Hope you enjoy Eriette as your commander and welcome to Magic!

Also, I recently discovered 'Minion's Return' and 'Unholy Indenture', which work really well in the deck - thief effects for our deck. Didn't put those in the video, so enjoy this fresh Intel!

@@mtgspecs But wouldn't that only apply to Tivash because of the intervening if-clause, which Celestine and Rudolf doesn't have of? But still, you're right about Celestine but she will still trigger and the value of X will be set to zero even if you stack Eriette before Celestine because the card chooses the target as it is put into the stack. On the other hand for Rudolf, as I asked others as well said he doesn't require a target until you pay the mana. Meaning you can stack it after Eriette to gain the life and then resolve Rudolf for the recursion?

AH, Wilhelt! He was my second commander deck ever. Wilds of Eldraine is taking up my 'one man' content creation right now but I feel quite inspired to return to some old decks during October - resurrecting Wilhelt during Halloween - perfection. TOP TIP - Noxious ghoul. OP in a zombie deck.
