Fantastic work boys! I’ve just stumbled across your channel. Ive been a landscaper for many years, starting on the tools, running my own business, but now I’m a project manager for a high end landscaper in London, with multiply Chelsea Flower Show Gold awards to their name. Your work is up with the best. Fantastic eye for detail that’s built to last. It’s refreshing to see, thanks for sharing

Hi Joe, To route the cabling for the LED's, the electrician simply drilled through the back of the sleepers. The connections were then made in a specialised waterproof box, and surrounded with pea gravel to allow any excess water to drain away. Hope this helps. All the best, John 😊

@@jimmylad8714 they are following a standard. Most earth structures require a waterproof membrane
@johnlever66964 жыл бұрын
Yeah I do the same with DPC when I put in planters. It’s a few minutes work that makes the difference. Same with doweling holes to cover screws. I always screw where it’s hid, if not possible then it’s a dowl.
@welshherow26034 жыл бұрын
Hey, nice looking system. Are you allowed to pile soil up against a wall, I thought regs needed 150mm below a damp course. I have taken countless flower beds out because of the damp issues they cause. Does a bit of ever build jollup suffice?
@BuildWithAE4 жыл бұрын
Hi Welshhero, The Black Jack DPM we used acts as a fully waterproof membrane, which will prevent any moisture transfer to the wall. When we fill the planters with soil, we will surround the weep holes with pea gravel to ensure any moisture created in the cavity can easily escape and drain away. The mistake some people make, is to use plastic DPM as a barrier. This can cause sweating against the wall, resulting in damp issues. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching, take care, John 😊
@BuildWithAE4 жыл бұрын
Hi Welshhero w I suppose you could argue the point, I think common sense at how we look at it with the black Jack coating and great drainage mixed soil and the width of the planters I would be surprised with any issues, plus with leaf spread, the amount of rain that will actually not filter and hold, I suppose a vertical line of 300 Mu would even more belt and brace like when you tank cellars on the external walls thanks for watching all the best Tony

Artificial grass is a travesty ! Avoid at all costs ! There is enough plastic in the environment without replacing perfectly good grass with it too!
@asensibleyoungman29783 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. Artificial grass is horrendous. I always equate it to chavs. Why don't people plant ground cover plants like Creeping Thyme or Creeping Jenny. It's zero maintenance, good for wildlife including pollinators and it's beautiful. Why do people want ugly sheets of hairy plastic littering their garden? Live in a flat if you don't like nature.

Hi Dean, These Oak sleepers will be around for many years to come, their made for this type of application. There will also be an aggregate which will infill the underside of the sleepers to help any excess water drain away. I hope this helps, all the best, John 😊

Hi Lame duck totally love Peter such a cool guy letting old houses breath is the most important thing but there are many considerations to take into account like people blocking up vents repointing with cement based products draft exclusion, central heating that’s why we suffer so much with mould because of many of these factors, the small area that we have done is something or nothing the idea of going back to lime based material is my idea of building but clients wouldn’t pay the cost build times you can go on forever but in the end cement based product has been sold to use many years ago and other products This is a huge debate because so many people have different opinions.
