It’s time to revisit our fungal friend the mushroom. In this tutorial, The GameSmith discusses how to build three different types of mushroom scatter terrain. We use some split peas, brad paper fasteners, and foam ear plugs to fashion different shaped mushrooms and decorate them. The DIY tutorial doesn’t stop there! We will also create various sized bases including a rocky pathway to cover with our colorful mushrooms. Whether you use the mushrooms above or underground, these oversize fungi are great fantasy scatter terrain that can be used to break site lines and create cover for your favorite wargame and roleplaying game such as Warhammer, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), and Pathfinder.
This video explores common and inexpensive items that can be used as mushroom scatter terrain. The techniques shown can be easily applied to other products and DIY designs. Once a crafter has an understanding of the methods used to modify and create these mushrooms, one can create an even greater variety of fantasy mushrooms. Even something as simple as changing the colors of the mushrooms can dramatically change the atmosphere at the game table.
From all of us here at TheGameSmith, we hope you are well and keeping safe in these challenging times.

There are so many ways to make miniature mushrooms I had to add three more to the channel. If you have any suggestions for mushrooms I'd like to hear about them in the comments.

I like the ear plug toadstools! I make mushrooms from buttons and clay. to give them weirder looks I use hot glur on them I also use Jar lid for gigantic mushrooms I made a ton of these last year for a cave board.

I think I understand what you're describing.... Jar lids would make very large mushrooms... I might have to tackle that myself.

One quick and easy technique i've seen for mushrooms is to put drops of hot glue into non-stick paper, then when they harden stab the bottom with toothpicks that form the stem, not even glue needed (Bard's Craft made a video on these). Miscast made a jig using Milliput to quickly and easily crank out very realistic mushrooms out of more clay and toothpicks (it's on his minecarts video). One thing is that i don't know how durable will be the split pea ones, i guess if they're dry the sealing with Mod Podge will make them last but no idea. Subscribed and have been binging today, nice channel! :)

Those are all great techniques. I frequently watch what other crafters are making so I don't present the exact same thing. As to the split pea mushrooms, I've had no issues with breakage. E6000 is an amazing glue and the modpodge makes them easy to paint. Lastly, I'm glad you're enjoying the channel. Stay tuned!

Your mushrooms are great! Subscribed and gave a like! "What's the smallest room in the world called? A mush-room!" Got any ideas or tips on making tree fungus for gaming dioramas? or just dioramas period?

We appreciate your support! Dad jokes? lol. As to your question about tree fungus, it depends on the size. We have a video: S01E014 on Large Fallen Logs kzbin.info/www/bejne/eITSkHZ_fbOhkM0 which uses EVA foam as shelf fungus. I hope you find that helpful.

@@TheGameSmithsTable I made shelf fungus using a hot glue gun. First I drew the shape I wanted and then put the drawing under glass and squeezed out the hot glue. Then using an X-Acto knife I trimmed it to fit my piece and painted it before attaching it! You should give it a try! Thanks!
@TheGameSmithsTable

Thats a great idea. And you can change the size of the fungus shelf!

Would the flat bits for the paper fasteners fit inside those small straws that come with juice boxes? That would get you your round stems without much effort.
@TheGameSmithsTable
@TheGameSmithsTable 3 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough I tried that, and the straw was too small to fit. I tried other straws but couldnt find the right fit, most were too big. So in the end, I decided to go with what ended up in the video. It's a great suggestion though. Perhaps it will work for someone else.

Fun fact the red mushrooms with white dots 🍄 are “magic mushrooms” and contain psychedelic chemicals. The make you “go on a trip” 😂👍
