It’s time to revisit our fungal friend the mushroom. In this tutorial, The GameSmith discusses how to build three different types of mushroom scatter terrain. We use some split peas, brad paper fasteners, and foam ear plugs to fashion different shaped mushrooms and decorate them. The DIY tutorial doesn’t stop there! We will also create various sized bases including a rocky pathway to cover with our colorful mushrooms. Whether you use the mushrooms above or underground, these oversize fungi are great fantasy scatter terrain that can be used to break site lines and create cover for your favorite wargame and roleplaying game such as Warhammer, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), and Pathfinder.
This video explores common and inexpensive items that can be used as mushroom scatter terrain. The techniques shown can be easily applied to other products and DIY designs. Once a crafter has an understanding of the methods used to modify and create these mushrooms, one can create an even greater variety of fantasy mushrooms. Even something as simple as changing the colors of the mushrooms can dramatically change the atmosphere at the game table.
From all of us here at TheGameSmith, we hope you are well and keeping safe in these challenging times.
