I got pretty lucky on drainage on this particular berm because it goes straight down the fall line and has enough slope that it drains naturally. The one's coming up are going to have some sort of underground culvert or it will be a nightmare every time it rains. Cheers Tucker!

Well I am kind of bummed I haven’t seen anymore on this trail building, I build trails with a Rototiller as well although I like the 5 hp front tine unit because I work on steeper terrain and that rear tine unless you could somehow offset the tines won’t cut bench on a 30% slope. But I have just recently started using a rear tine tiller after I cut my initial bench with the front tine. Then when I come through with the larger tell her it gives me fluff to both move where I want and leave in place to compact back down to make the trail smooth. I do also have a compactor plate which makes finishing the trail a lot faster. But I have built over 2 miles with just a rotor tiller,

Did you not hit any roots? All we have is roots and rocks in New England. Good grief. I doubt very much that machine could dig into New England soil. Everyone tells me that's the wrong way to make banked turns b/c of the drainage issue (but that is how I make them) - looking forward to your drainage solution. I might have to make a video on making a banked turn in New England. :-)

Here in PA we have the same roots and rocks issues. I sometimes use uprooted large trees as a berm mid-point to reduce the amount of labor moving dirt. To loosen the soil up I use a Stihl Yardman Tiller but it can clog up quickly with little roots, If I’m lucky I can get my sub compact tractor in to loosen the soil up. Downhill berms are the worst for drainage, you have to locate the berm exit at the lowest point, which isn’t usually convenient.
