I just use warm water and an old tooth brush to scrub it clean. Then I just use my reptile disinfectant like normal.

Great timing Cam. I pick up a new marbled childrens next week. Can i ask the purpose of removable rock? Did you install a basking light? what size is this enclosure please? I loved the paint job on this one 😀

So the removable rock is actually hollowed out behind and has entry points through crevices for a hide. Big enough behind it to be comfortable for an adult antaresia. This enclosure is a 900Lx450Dx600H There is a cage and ceramic heat emitters on the left side above the flat rock but I installed that after the video because the light cage and socket blocks a lot of the rock wall.

Hey bud. Love your work! I've been chatting with Luke from beaches scaly beasts. I'm having a hard time sourcing the tile pointing here in the states. Do you know of an alternative I can use to coat the foam? I've tried quikrete with no success. Cheers!

Hey mate thanks for the kind words. As far as I’m aware there isn’t a product like it overseas. I’ve had a few people from different countries including the states trying to source something similar with no luck. The only option I have heat and would recommend (only going off word and never used it personally because we can’t get it here) would be dryloc. From what I can gather it seems like a similar product but not the same components as the tile pointing. Same process seems to apply with being able to add oxides etc to change the colour also.

@@Cambart1 yeah I made a background using your technique with the quikrete hydraulic water stop cement as a base but I only did one thin layer and it didn't seem to make it hard enough. I then used 2-3 coats of drylok over the whole thing. It came out ok, but not as rigid. It was for my ackie monitor so I wasn't worried about him scratching through it. I think with more coats of the cement/mortar it would have worked better. Cheers for the reply! Keep up the amazing work!

All the coats I use are Dunlop roof tile pointing. It’s only available in Australia and best place is Bunnings. I change the colour of it using concrete oxides.

@@Cambart1 Oh, is pointing the same as roof paint or coating? I live in Norway and we have Taksitt roof paint. it's a waterborne paint specially designed for roof tiles and metal roofs.

Can’t be 100% sure it’s similar sorry. The stuff I use is a cement based compound that has high flexibility and weather resistance.

It’s a product only available in Aus called roof tile pointing. There are other similar products in the US like Dryloc but I’m not sure if it’s the same or not.

Your builds are killer fr. What would be the equivalent to the pointing in the America's. Is it like grout type of thing? Cause I'm digging the application texture

Thanks mate, the only product I’ve heard that would be similar would be dryloc but I can’t guarantee the finish will be the same. It’s not grout as grout isn’t flexible and tends to crack when not applied correctly.

I am in the process of building a 800 litre enclosure and i plan to do something similar as a background but the dunlop brand pointing isnt avail where i live, My question is will any pointing do the job i assume any acrylic based pointing is safe to use?

If it is roof tile pointing the the brand doesn’t matter. The product isn’t available overseas though

Does the foam really hold strong enough to have a 2 meter python resting on it without it breaking or coming off the back wall? Have you experienced any issues with it? I'm new to building enclosures but love the process.

For a larger snake I wouldn’t rely just on the foam as a shelf. If you watch my diamond python build I use timber shelves lined with foam to add strength. This build is only for a snake that will grow to 1m long so this design works perfectly.

Acrylic water based paint is safe to use. Doesn’t matter brand just as long as it’s water based

I’d leave a minimum of 300mm and never allow the surface temp to be more than 40 degree Celsius and always on a thermostat or you’ll melt the foam.

Hey im planning to do a spray foam background i have a glass back ground so do i apply silicone first before spraying spray foam?

With spray foam you’re best to lay the enclosure on its back so foam won’t slide off. Apply in thin layers at a time and wait for it to dry before adding more. If you go to heavy to begin with it won’t dry properly.

How hard should the rock be after painting

It is quite firm but depends what foam you use underneath. If you’re coating over expanding foam the surface will feel hard to touch/nails but will still compress when force is applied. If using the insulation foam you’ll get a firmer feel when pressure applied. If I’m using expanding foam primarily I’ll still use insulation foam for basking areas or ledges.

Nah I don’t seal it. The product I use is pretty much waterproof unless waste is left on it for a significant amount of time

Man, why is it that this stuff cuts best when cutting towards ourselves? Everyone I've seen cut it good has. I can't cut through it very easily without doing that. Even my foam cutter struggles.
