How to Build Sherlock's Mind Palace? The Method of Loci

If you are one of the people who say, "I can't remember anything properly", you are being a little unfair to yourself as human brains can't remember some things easily. For example, I often say: I am not good at remembering names, but I'll certainly remember if I see someone. It's because our visual memory is better. In fact, we remember many things related to our senses more easily. It's the reason why you can sing along easily with the songs to which you've listened many years ago. Or a smell can instantly take you back to the deepest memories of your childhood. However, the names are bound to be forgotten. We have hard time memorizing the phone numbers, or a set of numbers, or formulas. It is hard for us to memorize abstract concepts . Since these kinds of things are quite new and modern compared to the visual, tactile, auditory, gustatory, or olfactory information that our brains have been gathering for thousands of years. Nevertheless, we somehow need to learn those new and modern concepts. When I was a law studentl, the thinnest book we studied was thicker than my wrist, and I tried almost every kinds of method to absorb the information on those books. One of the methods came really handy. Sherlock uses that method, too What Sherlock calls as his "Mind Palace"is actually a memory developing method that is known for thousands of years. It is called "Method of Loci". Loci is the equivalent of English word "location". So, we can call it the method of location. The trick to use this method lies not in the place, but in any location.
