Have you ever needed to use or build square forms for sonotubes? Tell us about it! If not, what do you think about this?

Hindsight is always 20/20. I might have done things the same way you did, but after seeing what you went through, I would attach a short section of post to a piece of OSB with a lip on the bottom that fits over the sonotube. Then you could have used that for alignment when you set the tubes. Then all of the posts would be centered over the tube. If that makes any sense.

HI, Stan! Not sure exactly what you mean. Any prep you can do prior to pour day is worthwhile. I think I could have put cleats attached to the OSB that fit on the outside of the sonotubes that could have reference marks. It's pretty easy to screw things from the inside the sonotubes that could have been a solid reference. That could have made it easier and went away from having strings everywhere. But, it's over with now and turned out pretty good. Thanks for watching!

This looks like a challenging pour. It's good to have lots of help and a plan for what everyone is to do. Are you planning to leave the OSB board on top of the sonotube after the concrete cures? Are you going to use some kind of release agent on the inside of the forms so that they will separate from the concrete? A vibrator will help to make sure you don't have any voids in the concrete in the sonotube. Good luck. I will be looking forward to the video on this. I hope everything goes according to plan.

Hi, Mike! We are taking the osb out - it's pinched in those rounded voids. But, I just cut the fat side and it came out. Erik had some releasing agent and it worked good. We didn't vibrate the main piers and I had a rubber mallet for the boxes, but it didn't get used. A little bit of popcorning, but not too bad. Keep the comments coming, Mike. This seems like a lot of unnecessary work. Why not just fill the sonotubes and then adjust the length of each post. Or even better get the tops of each sonotube level with each other.

Beth (Greg’s wife)had the same question. Mainly, it comes down to shedding water away from the post, as the floor will be gravel on this side. We are making a part two video to help help explain it better.
