I really appreciate how you showed the entire process up to the point where i DON'T KNOW how to do the rest. Guess I'll stick to fine furniture making

I apologize for that, the homeowners showed up and didn't like us filming, so we had to shorten it up till they left.

Came for the columns, stayed for the house tour. The way he described the details, as if it were an art gallery.

6 min on prep, then smash cut to finish product lol we need the middle
@SPennington88 Жыл бұрын
do you need the lath or could you just replace the plywood with cement board? or is it because the stone is too heavy for that?
@SolidworksUnlimited Жыл бұрын
You can stick the stone right to hardy backer or cement board as long as it's fastened well.
@SPennington88 Жыл бұрын
@@SolidworksUnlimited thanks! Ive really only used stone veneers which are obviously lighter so should work ok

What nailer model are you using?
@SolidworksUnlimited8 ай бұрын
I've used several different kinds over the years, but the Hitachi or matabo now, I think they bought Hitachi out, and makita seem to be about the best, haven't tried a matabo heard good things about those. Here's a link to the Hitachi/ matabo amzn.to/3xSVQnh Makita amzn.to/3UuO3EV Keep in mind the 1/2 inch crown gun is cheaper but the staples aren't as readily available.

25 years later people like me are highered to take the stone off, replace the rotted wood under the stone with a piece of steel and then the stone goes back on the columns cut off out of the rot area. FYI, never cover wood columns with stone unless you want rot fixed in 25 years..
@SolidworksUnlimited Жыл бұрын
The only way wood rots is if water gets to it, no water no rot, granted you can pay vastly more money for a better more water proof column, but everyone is on a budget. Also building materials will be different in 25 years and ready for a face lift. I'm not trying to discounting high quality, it's good, but people just can't afford to buy it, if I bid every job to do it the most perfect way I'd never land the job. Sad but that's the way it is. Sometimes people are willing but not very often.

I know for a fact it will last many many years! I built a stone sign 12 years ago just like this, got 8 ft of snow on it most winters. I checked on it just a few days ago and it's solid and tight not one loose stone, so I have knowledge on the subject, your guessing trying to look smart by dissing others!
