For us that are just starting in this business would you please consider doing a video on how you go about pricing your jobs please? I would highly appreciate that greatly!

Have to figure what works best for you. You need to understand how much your time is worth, the cost of materials, and a strong understanding of how long each step of a job will take to complete. Someone building patios in California that wants to drive a Lamborghini is going to be serving a much different clientele than someone in the Northeast and the profits needed to complete a job will be much higher. You have to figure out where you are and where you are headed to set realistic goals.

Thanks for the great tips, especially explaining about why it's a good idea to used crushed stone under concrete to avoid it freezing and expanding. I detect some Boston accents there lol

Might a 26-gauge sheet of galvanized flashing Gorilla-glued to the house possibly protect the house from moisture associated with the steps? The siding of my house rotted because concrete was poured against my house with nothing separating the two. The only way for me to access and repair the rotting siding and sheathing and joist ends and sill plate is to remove the concrete steps.

You guys are doing an excellent job. I love watching your videos, and I can learn a lot from it. I am in dire need for new steps (right now using some plastic stuff purchased on Amazon which are falling apart) and I was thinking of using those concrete blocks as well and I have two questions: 1: I have about 10 inch of stucco bellow my patio door, before it gets to weep screed and foundation. I am not sure if is OK to put those concrete blocks against the stucco, would that create any issues with the moisture? 2: Can you add patio pavers instead of stone veneer and is fo, do you glue them, or would you cement them?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! And you can build you blocks right up against the stucco, it won't be an issue. And you can certainly use pavers instead of veneer and I think you can use glue or cement. I think a nice thin set mortar would hold better than glue though

Yes you do, it helps hold the pressure of the backfill stone as well as the concrete pad and granite landing. ✌

Chip stone. 1b Limestone, granite chips...or whatever the clean angular 3/8" and smaller chip stone in your area is. No big stones as that is harder to screed and dosnt allow the pavers to settle on plane with each other when compacted.

These are 8x8x16's it appears. Is the rise too high/uncomfortable?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
You are correct, the steps are 8" high which is the max by code. I don't think they are uncomfortable but I do believe 6" steps are more comfortable. But building it with 3 steps just did not make sense.✌
