A great model of a beautiful aircraft. I live in Kobe City, Japan. On the mountain behind my house is a crash-site memorial to the aircrew (both Japanese and American) killed in a mid-air collision in March 1945 between a Hein/Tony interceptor and a US B-29 which was firebombing the city. It is generally believed that the collision was inadvertent (eg during a strafing run on the bomber) ie not a 'kamikaze'-style attack.

A beautiful kit. And it certainly seems to be engineered to allow the production of a Ki-100 in the future. It's the only reason I can think of for the separate panel in the center section of the wing underside. Hopefully it won't be too long coming. I've been waiting a while for earlier versions of the A6M model 11/21 and/or 22/32 to go along with the new A6M5 tooling.

Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting them. Beautiful job on the Tony, but you sure went to a lot of trouble to get the gloss black undercoat for the Alclad. I use 40% Tamiya X-1 / 60% "slow" automotive lacquer thinner. It gives a brilliant, glossy finish that bites hard into the plastic so your Alclad will not pull off no matter if you leave masking tape on for a month. Try it: you will love it and it will save you a lot of time.

Great model, great video. May I suggest to make more videos like this in the future? Though I'm interested in your modelling, I don't want to watch a an hour long video where only a part of the actual build is shown.
@Scaleaton7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sebastian, thank you very much for feedback. There are so many inexperienced modeler following my channel and copying my builds step by step. I upload uncut videos for them. After i completed a model, upload shorter version for advanced modelers and other viewers. I agree with you, it's real pain and deadly boring to watching long and uncut videos but it works when you copying it. I decided to upload longer versions when someone started to build a model first time in his life for a gift his grandfather using my Hellcat build video. Maybe i will split my channel for build logs in future.

You sir, are a true artist! I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I've enjoyed every single one of them. I used to build models myself (never even close to your skills, though!) and I found it deeply soothing and relaxing. Now, with work, and kids and what not, I find it pretty hard to make time. So, your videos make up for that. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Patagonia! PS: No doubt this a stupid question, but what is IPA? As far as I knew, it had something to do with brewing, but I don't suppose you're thinning your paints with beer, are you?
@Scaleaton6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very Much Pablo! NEIPA and IPA my favorite beer type but no I am not thinning my paints with them. It's isopropyl alcohol. That's my bad I am adding this information on my new videos.

When I was 7 years old I have read a book "The end of Empire". It was about 244. Sentai fighting against B-29 to the end of war. This unit was fighting on Hiens, so I consider it a point of honor to build this plane, especially Teruhiko Kobayashi's machine. He was my favourite character :)))

Could you explain the hairspray method? Is the paint not adhering well enough to the surface, and you can then create a chipping effect simply with a 2000 grid sandpaper?
@Scaleaton7 жыл бұрын
Hi Harris, here's the link about it migjimenez.blogspot.com.tr/2009/11/hairspray-technique-vol1.html But i use sanding papers instead brush. Ofc i don't sanding just touching on paint layer gently. If it not works paint layer not enough wet. Water is the key for this method.
@masterofinsanity19937 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering! I'll give it a try. I used the sponge method before with moderate success.

did the alclad paint ever come off while masking? Also what brand would you prefer for metalizers
@Scaleaton7 жыл бұрын
Alclad paints are the safest metallic paints i ever used. But i prefer Mr Color metallics for all interior and engine paintings.
@alexsemperemasana7052 жыл бұрын
So, I have a question, it might sound stupid but I'm a beginner: why do you put a coat of black paint before the metallic one?
@Scaleaton2 жыл бұрын
Nope not at all stupid question. This is must for metallic paints because metal pigments get more realistic reflection when apply over black and glossy surfaces.

@phayzyre10527 жыл бұрын
Outstanding job! I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to your future builds. I take "IPA" stands for isopropyl alcohol; Does it matter which alcohol you use when you paint....70% or 90%? I can't remember which type I used but as a cost saving measure I tried to airbrush Tamiya paints with IPA few years ago and it didn't work very well.
@Scaleaton7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Yes it's isopropyl alcohol. It works with Gunze and Tamiya acyrilics perfectly. Also i use ethyl alcohol too. IPA is cheaper.
@phayzyre10527 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'll give it a try next time. I just purchased an 8 ounce container of Tamiya acrylic thinner for nearly $9 and for that much I can buy a LOT of IPA.

One of my favorite builds so far! How do you avoid dust particles under the paint, sir? I just covered my mustang with metallic finish, carefully trying to get rid of all the dust before spraying, but still I have some dust which is very visible under the metallic coat. Not a tragedy, of course, but very embarrassing.
@pauka134 жыл бұрын
you cant avoid that unless you live in a pressurized room. Polishing is the key! Paint the model than after a few layers of clear coat you need to wet sand the whole surface with at least 2000 grit sandpaper than polish it with a rag and tamiya compound. It will shine like a mirror.
