Watched a ton of these fancy feast alcohol stove builds. This one is the most informative I've seen. Great work.

Thanks for the video! I couldn't find carbon felt (welding blanket) at local big box stores. I found it at Amazon and was able to find smaller quantities at a cheaper cost. I also ordered 1/8 inch thickness instead of 1/4 inch. I figured I could double up 1/8 inch if I needed thicker wicking, but I would have difficulty thinning 1/4 inch to fit thinner gaps between the inner and outer walls.

Best alcohol stove. I just used it this morning to make coffee at my daughter's cross country meet. Fresh, hot coffee out in the sticks.

Thank you very much. I researched making this stove for a little while and each KZbin video had something different to say but I ignored all those and followed your clear directions verbatim. 2 cups of water in my 750ml titanium pot came to a full boil in 5 minutes 45 seconds and fuel burned out a little shy of 10 minutes. I did the small relief holes you suggested and they never shot out flames from those holes until the very end when the wicked fuel was gone and the vapor fuel was all that was left. I recommend these directions over any other.

Your directions are great. I followed them as closely as I could and the stove is perfect. Thanks for taking the time to explain how it's done.

Nice. I have one that I use for Kayak camping. Works great. After watching you, I added small holes in the top. I carry a flat tin and make grilled cheese witches. Thank you.

I made mine out of a 5 oz sliced mushrooms can & a cut down 14.5 oz diced tomatos with green chiles can. I ordered a patch of carbon felt 5" x 18" off ebay but in the meantime I used some regular green felt I had for proof of concept test. My inner can top rim is 1-3/16" above the felt surface & seems to work well with the 14cm stainless steel Zebra pot I'm using, it will do a rolling boil of 21 oz water in 6 min using HEET as fuel. When I get near a HD I'll get some denatured alcohol to try. The regular felt tends to melt at the surface in a ring where the flame surface is but it works. I'm sure the carbon felt will have a better flame.

Well done. Clear instructions and we appreciate knowing the details of what worked out the best for you in actual use. Now, hopefully, we can find the carbon felt in the Philippines but I am thinking this one will have to be an online order.

hey Hi can I use steel wool instead of carbon felt ?
@mannihh5274
@mannihh5274 5 жыл бұрын
No, steel wool will get to a white heat and rust away fast - it doesn't wick well either. The stove gets really hot, so you need a steel inner can, not one of aluminium.

In a tent or something where the wind doesnt affect the performance, they are probably very good - but it does not seem like my first choice of what i would actually want to use inside a tent... And outside a tent, on a windy day, i would think the trangia storm kitchen has some BIG advantages over this fancy feast, as well as probably ALL other cooking sets that i have seen... I got a cheap knockoff, and its ok, but nothing compared to the wind protection of the Trangia...

What is the best way to put this stove Out .??
@intrepidsurvivalist2749
@intrepidsurvivalist2749 6 жыл бұрын
Two ways, put a pot or cup upside down over it and cut off it's air or just let it burn out. Once you use it for a little while you figure out how much fuel you need to get the job done and then just let it burn off the excess.

I can not for the life of me figure out why Cali would ban one of the cleanest burning fuels ever invented. Weird. Wonder what the sail boat fleet is going to do with all the alcohol stoves they use.

Not really, the alcohol content is too low and it is more expensive. Try methanol/methyl alcohol from a harware store or paint store.
@mrkraemer77722
@mrkraemer77722 4 жыл бұрын
@@DaveM-mp6yu Methanol or denatured alcohol both give off toxic fumes when burned in an enclosed soace (denatured alcohol is "denatured" because it contains some nethanol). Neither should be used indoors for warmth. These stoves also are pretty limited in the heat they give off; it tends to be concentrated in a pretty small area, so it's not efficient to heat an area.

You might like to check out a new design I've posted with internal and external flame jets. It works best with ethanol, heats from the moment it's lit, doesn't need a pot stand and allows easy retrieval of unburnt fuel for later use. It also works well with charcoal kzbin.info/www/bejne/epS4fJR-pL54i7c

Not sure about the 3/4 oz fuel as that does not ever seem to be enough fuel to allow saturation of the carbon felt wick. Because if the wick is not totally saturated you can not light it. Well the only caveat to that is if you throw a match into the center of the stove and allow it to burn till the fuel is driven up the wick. The real advocates of this stove say an ounce. I am still not getting consistancy results.
@shadowcastre
@shadowcastre 5 жыл бұрын
For easy lighting less than an ounce of fuel.. prime the wick beforehand.
