I like to charge for shipping because if I have to do promotional mark down sales, it will be only on the cost of the item and my shipping price will not be affected by markdown sale. On the other hand if you build in the cost of shipping into item price and start doing mark down sales of 30-50% then essentially you are paying for shipping out of your pocket. Hope that makes sense.
@RALLIROOTS11 ай бұрын
It does but I’d you price your items with room to do that it’s the same difference
@boogerhooks11 ай бұрын
I do the same on my store. If an item hasn't sold in a couple months it goes to markdown sale.
@mm-jz6tk9 ай бұрын
How do you know what the shipping is going to be. I see the estimate,do I just add the highest price to the listing price?
@EZ2Follow9 ай бұрын
@@mm-jz6tk I normally calculate shipping for worst case scenario. I am in CA and my shipping is calculated assuming the buyer is farthest from me ( NJ or NYC etc). I also have excluded certain areas from shipping like Hawaii and US protected areas like Guam etc. Shipping prices normally depend on weight and size of the package. USPS is great for anything less than 2 lbs. UPS and FedEx work great for anything more than 5 lbs. If a box is 12x12x12 and weight less than 5 lbs, I normally have a flat rate of $14.99. If weight is 5-10 lbs, I use flat rate of $16.99 If weight is more than 10 lbs, I use $24.5. These so far work for me.

We are fairly new resellers, and this video has a lot of useful information. I agree that offering free shipping may be a good idea for high price items, but it also depends on where you live. We live in South Carolina, so there is a big price difference when we ship something to the West Coast. And we seem to have a lot buyers from CA. The variance in shipping, to us, makes it not worth it to offer free shipping on most items. We would rather offer a slightly lower price than other sold comps, and charge for shipping.

Ryan, Hello from Oregon…… Just wanted to take a minute to let you know how much I appreciate all the tips you pack into your videos. I try to apply them to my new eBay business every chance I get. Just recently I ordered my shoe boxes from USPS because of a video I just watched had that tip. I have really applied the buying smart technic to see what the sell through rate is. And I really had a fundamental change in my pricing by “setting it low and letting it go. My first full week at this I just hit $996 which I honestly never thought I would see but I am figuring this out. My favorite thing right now is opening my eBay account and finding I have a new sell and then how fast I can get it scanned in for shipping. On Saturday I actually had 3 items sell so it was a big day for me very exciting because I can see how this can take off. Gotta keep this as short as I can. My pile of death is like 10 ft high right now so between homeschooling my 7 yo and that I really find zero free time left in my day. Once again thanks for your awesome tip filled videos! If anyone does a lot of clothing and measurements......I recommend printing out a blueprint of each type of clothing you sell, with the measurements arrows........I printed front and back so I didn't have like 10 sheets.......Then laminate each one. Then buy a magic marker to fill in the measurements on your laminated sheet. Then take a quick picture, and erase the measurements. Then you can use the blue print for each different item. Very useful when I did a lot of clothing.

Hello, thank you for all the great information. I have been selling on and off on eBay for about 10 years but in the last two years I got serious and have sold 1.5K items, the items I sell are low cost and require boxed packaging as opposed to bags/envelopes. I decided on the majority of my listings to charge shipping but at a set rate, buyers will pay the same amount no matter the location, I have learned that the majority of shipping cost is covered, sometimes it can cost more when shipping to California, Oregon, Washington since I am in Atlanta area. I also on the other hand ship for free on items that are higher selling amounts.

I sell mostly T Shirts on eBay (started around January) I do charge shipping on the majority of my shirts, but my shirts are normally significantly lower than others. I also go with the lowest shipping price on everything. Most of my shirts, I put in as 8oz in a 13x11x1 poly bag. That way it gives the customer the lowest shipping (most of my shirts are under $20) any tee that is $40 and up, it’s always free shipping

The "white background" for SEO formulas have changed. White still works absolutely fine, though it has been stated that as long as the picture is clean, high quality, and doesnt have extraneous stuff in the background, that will appear equally as high in both eBay and Google shopping SERPs. I will agree though that some of the images you said didnt look good not being in white backgrounds were busy, not well lit, or not squared out all of which are important.

@@janicemurphy5177 That used to be correct but also is not necessary any longer to show up in Google SERPs as posted in my original comment. Google's algorithm's are constantly changing, and their image and merchant center formulas accept non-white backgrounds and show them just as often as white backgrounds if the image quality is good.

Hey rally so I see you talk about the return policy a lot I am a top rated eBay seller been doing this for awhile now! 10+ years I have 1400 items up plus I used to have free returns I mainly just sell clothing I found that I get alot of people who abuse the buyer protection and it’s a nightmare! Most of my returns always come from California or New York I have no idea why lol. But I changed mine to no returns and now I’m able to decline returns when it’s a remorse reason a lot of buyers though have learned that they can select different reasons and eBay will force the return returns are never easy definitely when it’s just a stupid reason but I like your input on this. I may try it again it’s one of the hardest things I’m dealing with right now

We're a year in, we haven't had a scam attempt since the first couple months, sold hundreds of items with no issues. Main problem is women's clothing "doesn't fit" returns because they don't read or look at the 10-20 pictures you take including measurements. The last one I got back had a hole small hole in it but I didn't have a zoomed in enough picture to prove it so tossed the new with tag item in the trash... then I've had a jersey returned covered in pet hair and perfume... there's just nothing you can do. Some people are just trash. Leave them a bad review or withhold their return and get a bad feedback only hurts you. They don't care.
@boogerhooks9 ай бұрын
Returns are a small percentage of sales, but they're a huge waste of time. I've had everything from items returned in different model packaging, returned used, returned damaged, broken open in the mail and received empty box, people writing notes to themselves on packaging of new items... All this and my listings are "No Returns."

I've sold hundreds (thousands?) of items on eBay since the year 2000. It's always been a part of just cleaning up stuff. A little of products I made my self. However, I think it's time I need to create a more serious store... I'd prefer to own my own website but think I should probably quick setup a store on eBay, make some money then transition to my own website. Perhaps put ads in the shipments to advertise a website and give a small discount versus eBay. Just kind of froze up not having done anything yet... but my day job as a Real Estate Broker isn't paying the bills right now so I really need to get something going.

An astute buyer knows that there is no such thing as "free" shipping. The cost to get a product to the buyer is always built in regardless of the point of purchase. However, it is like the pricing at $9.47 as opposed top $10.00 is a psyco trick to draw the buyer to think there is an actual appreciable savings. And yes, free 30 day returns is a enducement. ment.

Also as far as shipping ... with me I look at it if the buyer opens a return then you lose out on shipping and had to pay shipping both ways which you cannot get refunded...also how does that work for writing off for taxes?
